Brighton for Christmas! Things to do?

Am very excited - going to Brighton for Christmas with dh and ds (14 months). Staying in the Laines... does anyone have ideas about nice places to eat, things to see that might be open over Christmas?

Have only ever been for work before, and didn't get a chance to look round. Would be great to pre-book a few meals (pref in places where they can deal with small people!) and know where to find somewhere ds can let off steam...

terre a terre is a fantastic restaurant - vegetarian, but not a lentil loaf in sight! It is remarkable food, beautifully presented and really tasty. Bit pricey but worth it for a treat. They are very child friendly there - with a box of toys and colouring and great kids menu. It's on East Street (near Baby Gap!).

Tootsies in the lanes is good for kids too.

dhw I have heard that the pavilion is open and free on boxing day - is this right?

dhw · 21/11/2006 18:02

might well be - that's a good idea. Although it might only be free for local residents...sometimes you have to take proof of address with you to get special deals.

Thanks Pollyanna and dhw - great ideas. Terre a terre website is great; looks really appealing. And the Pavillion on Boxing Day would be perfect; will check opening times.
Does anyone know if there any nice playgrounds near the centre?

on the sea front there is a fantastic playground - it's just past the pier, and just next to the old derelict West Pier - actually down next to the beach. Also has a great cafe which does the best green and blacks hot choc and really good coffee.
have a lovely time

Dhw, sounds perfect - will raise a festive mug of hot choc to you!

went there last month and sea world was really good. Your ds is a bit young to get the whole effect but he will love looking at the fish, sharks and giant sea turles and you both will enjoy it too. You get to walk underneath the water and look up at sharks and turtles swimming over your head. It's located almost on the waterfront just across the street near the pier.
