Just booked lovely hotel in Belek Turkey for 10 nights in August. DM is coming but has now said she's worried about the terrorism threat and has got me worrying too! What are your thoughts? Would you go?
TIA

I wouldn't go, and I have been several times and love Turkey. I am an over worrier though. There is a map that shows the threat level, and Turkey is high. I know there is a chance of it happening in the uk but I think I would rather be on familiar soil if it happened.

Oh crikey. I'm fretting again now!

Watching this with interest as on the verge of booking a 2 week holiday for August in Turkey. Usually wouldn't bat an eyelid but with Tunisia am a little more wary. Am really quite torn to be honest.

Rollergirl, I've just been reading a thread on TripAdvisor which is a little more reassuring:

Please don't worry.

My husband's family live about 100km from the Syrian border and they say life just goes on the same as normal there, they notice nothing going on at all.

The resorts are all carrying on the same too, I know people living in Bodrum and they say everyone is having a great time.

Thanks Sootica

I wouldn't go. We went to Side in Turkey last year which is closer to Syria than some other resorts and whilst it had a typical holiday feel, seeing fighter jets flying over on a daily basis whilst sat by the pool, does not make for a reassuring holiday.

Of course many countries are high risk at present but I'd class turkey (and similar countries like Tunisia) as higher purely as its a route for Isis and so easier for them to get to, congregate and plan.

mimbleandlittlemy · 06/07/2015 12:42

If you don't like fighter jets going over head all the time that rules out the whole of the North Norfolk coast too Smile

Now our familly are looking for good appartaments here lana-cyprus.com/
And next week we`ll go to Cyprus
Has someone went here? pls writte a few words about it
after Cyprus, we plan to go to Turkey for a few days
what places we should visit?

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 06/07/2015 14:41

I wouldn't go. But as mentioned on another thread I would pretty much avoid the whole of North Africa and the Middle East. I would especially avoid Egypt, Turkey and Tunisia which are the more obvious tourist destinations.

Having said that if you're happy to take the risk, the likelihood of anything happening is low.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 06/07/2015 14:42

I'd also avoid Greece for entirely different reasons.
