School trip to London - terrorism threat severe

Hi, first time posting. My eldest is due to visit London on a school trip. An worried that the current terrorism threat level is 'severe'. Should I allow him to go? I'm not usually prone to panic etc but have a nagging doubt that won't go away. I've asked myself 'where is he safest?' The obvious answer is at school and not in Central London. I know the spiel about not letting terrorists prevent us from going about our everyday lives but is it irresponsible to allow your child to travel to a city when the threat of a terrorist incident is 'highly likely' (in the words of govt advice).

The threat for London AND the whole of the UK from international terrorism is severe.

This, according to MI5 www.mi5.gov.uk/home/the-threats/terrorism/threat-levels.html

Much of Europe is also at high risk

goes and hides in Switzerland

I understand how you feel. My dd had to go on a school trip to the traffic centre yesterday and I was also very nervous as its often rumored as a potential target. Thing is, all of UK is on severe, not just London. I'd let him go but understand your worries.

Yup, the whole of the UK has been on severe alert for a long time.
Luckily any terrorist attempts in the UK have been thwarted by the authorities in the last few years before they came to fruition. So much goes on under the surface that the general public is rarely made aware of.

I'm interested in this reaction as we live and are bringing up our children in central London. Yes it occurs to me and I'm very upset by extremism but if you're worried about visiting for one day DD has survived 9 years. I should think your dd will be ok

Was in London 7/7, colleagues were caught up in it. Note that all telephone was cut. No mobile links etc.

Just a risk, tbh.

But we've been through equivalents before. A friend was killed in the Harrods bombing by the IRA, my school days were constantly disrupted by the IRA ( wasn't in London nor NI).
