I used to be a seasoned traveller (dh not so much ). Not now. I'm a total novice flying long haul with dd and dh. It'll be her first visit to the US and her first flight ever. DH is a bit nervous but has total faith in me. Grin
Tell me about online check in, liquid restrictions in flight, api, charging up electronic devices before going. US customs.
Assume I know nothing.
While you're at it, tell me about anything you take to make the flight more comfy.
I was used to roughing it. I have MS now (not too troubling yet but I can't rough it the way I used to).
Many thanks Smile

Just on liquids etc you can take anything you buy airside on the plane, even if over 10ml. It will be overpriced but not horrific (at London airports at least).

100ml even

properly, even Grin The luggage idea is also really good. I was going to make sure everyone had a light change in hand luggage. But we are going to an all adult female household. I'll be ok if luggage gets delayed but dh and dd won't. I'll make sure something from his and hers in everyone's luggage.

Extended battery for your tablet and headphone splitter cable. And I always take a packet of hobnobs. They're great on the plane if you need something to eat midflight but also soothe the hunger at 3am when you wake with jetlag but breakfast isn't going to be served for another 3 hours.

Also check the list of things that you can't take into the US. We got caught out with a ham roll that they'd given us on the flight. DD2 had slept through the meal and we were saving it for when she woke up but you aren't allowed to take ham into the US.

Mrs mortis, I would (to myself) put hobnobs in the category of a major food group so that sounds like an excellent idea.
We'll see what dd likes for snacking that you can buy in the US for overnight return journey.
