We love the Cariba Creek water park and we've been twice. DD & DS preferred it to Center Parcs (at Penrith) as the kiddies area is more open than it was at CP. We stayed in the Splash Landings hotel as DD wanted to sleep in a bunk bed. But because it was out of season everything in that hotel was closed (except the water park) so we changed to the Alton Towers hotel - which I preferred. The room had more carpet and seemed more spacious (I have a thing about carpet) but no bunk beds.

It says you can't take food into Cariba Creek, but everyone does as the food there is expensive, they run out if you don't queue up early enough and the queues are enormous at lunch time. So on the day you arrive, take a cool box with your lunch in.

Will tell you next week - we're off there this weekend, thanks to the fab offer of £20/night for a family room which someone posted here last week

They're quite flexible so complain if you're not happy and they'll do everything they can to help. Eg we got meals for the kids early as the restaurant didn't open until 7pm. Have a nice time.

We took ds (5) there this weekend - great offer at the moment of £20/family room at the Alton Towers hotel (see here ) or £10/room weekdays. That gets you into Cariba Creek for £8 each instead of the standard £12, so just about pays for the hotel anyway (especially if you take things for breakfast in with you rather than paying £8.50 each for the hotel breakfast).

ds had a great time - but I'd say it's better either for those who are bigger than 110cm (they are quite strict about checking this) or a fair bit younger as I could have seen ds getting quite frustrated if we'd gone a few months ago and he'd been able to see the water slides but not been allowed to go on them.

The hotel actually laid on a bit of kids entertainment in the evening - a magic show and a disco (the rooms seem well enough soundproofed that you couldn't hear it from the rooms).

ds's favourite part was the hotel lifts with flashing lights and sound effects though!
