I wonder if anyone could help me with what appears to be the immpossible!!

My husband & I would like to just jump on a plane with our 3 children, for just a couple of hours, get off and arrive at a winter wonderland!! Then check into our log cabin with a roaring fire and just go outside whenever we fancy for a snowball fight or to build a snowman!! (Anyone remember - the things we used to do as kids??)

We don't particularly want a ski resort, but the words rural, pituresque, villagy, log cabins, spring to mind!!

Obviously we are on a very tight budget with 3 little ones so I would assume the Austria's and Switzerland's are out but I am open to any offers or experiences anyone has to offer!!

As I say this is proving to be incredibly difficult after scouring the internet for HOURS!! But I can't give up - have promised the kids now!!!!

Thnks for any help anyone can give me!!

Kind regards

erm...I remember seeing on telly the santa claus trips, they offer the scenery you describe, along with dog sledding etc,

are they to Iceland? they seemed reasonable, sorry I have no further info

global passages.com lapland/finland

2 adults +child 500 euros for 4 days
or something like that, sorry I dont know how to make you a link!

Think you mean Lapland but even day trips cost a fair bit and it is very cold for lo's. Most countries you'd have to travel the other end a bit to find that amount of real snow - Scandanavia might be your best bet. Otherwise Inntravel might be worth a look though if you aren't looking specifically for a ski resort or Igluski.com which is an online travel agency for various tour operators ( and who also do Lapland).

With a "very tight budget and 3 little ones" I would suggest Lapland/Scandinavia could be a bit expensive?

The Alps (but not a mainstream resort)would be a cheaper option if you are happy to book yourself.

Where do you live (i.e. near Stansted for cheap flights)?
When were you thinking of going?
