Anyone got a Disney World/Florida holiday planned? Part 3

I thought I'd start a new thread as number 2 is nearly full.

Links to old threads:

thread 1

thread 2

We haven't got ours booked yet. But we are planning on going August 2016. DH and I both turn 30 in the next 11 months so it's like a big birthday holiday.

Has anyone stayed on when Magic have their extra magic hours? (Midnight-2am while we are there), how do the ride operators know if you're a Disney Guest? Do they actually check?!

ShiftyFades · 13/07/2015 06:39

Just booked our first Fast passes: Hollywood Studios on Wed 12th Aug!
It's real now

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 13/07/2015 07:17

Oh Dog, that's adorable! My DD is probably too old to want to meet characters now so I wish we'd done it earlier.

Shifty, I've done EMH in Paris, not WDW, but there they only let you into the relevant land if you show them a card that you get given when you check-in. So whilst the public could be in Main Street there would be a rope across the entrance to Fantasyland and you can only go through with the card. Once in, you can go on whatever you want and don't need to show anything. My DD was 6 at the time and dressed as Cinderella - she didn't know about EMH and the CM who let us through said to DD that he was only letting us through because he could tell she was a real princess Grin

ShiftyFades · 13/07/2015 07:44

Oh bless, that's really sweet!

Anyone else know how they control the Extra Magic Hours in WDW in the evening please?

Last Easter Magic didn't close until 2am, for everyone! It was brilliant.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 13/07/2015 09:04

Oops, sorry, I missed the bit about EMH being in the evening when you go! According to Google, non-resort guests can stay in the park for evening EMH but you have to present your resort ID at the entrance to each ride to be allowed on.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 13/07/2015 09:06

Oh and I've just ordered my dress for MNSSHP - fingers crossed it fits!!! That's about 75% of our outfits sorted now, woohoo!

McKayz · 14/07/2015 08:21

Only 399 days until my holiday! Seems a million years away but I'm sure it'll come round soon enough.

I think I'm on about 380 McKayz Grin.

Still watching the news avidly hoping that this year's trip to Greece goes ahead... That one is a kinder 17 days away.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 14/07/2015 09:19

I'm on 87 days and 392 days :)

PandasRock · 14/07/2015 12:12

I'm in just over 200, and still trying to get my reservation to link in MDE. it's gettig quite important now - ADR time coming up - so will have to phone Disney.

I've got a 30 day countdown for this summers trip, yet my head is full of Disney arrangements Grin. Must start organising what we need for imminent holiday...

BloodyDogHairs · 14/07/2015 13:56

Lucky you's, I've unliked Florida disney pages and left the FB groups I had joined Sad it'll be a long long time before I go back. I did say that last year right enough and somehow ended up booking again for this year but I found the travelling with a 1 and 3 yr old too much so we'll go back when they don't need carried/buggies/car seats Grin

PandasRock · 14/07/2015 15:23

Oh, it is tough when they are little. Ds was only 14 months on our last trip, and it was tough. He will be 3 next time, and it does make a difference.

Mind you, this is one time where dd1's disability is almost a bonus - we know we need a wheelchair/SN buggy as the parks are tiring. Dd1 doesn't need it all the time, so all 3 of mine can take turns hopping in and out for a rest. And there will always be somewhere to store the raincoats/sun cream/water without lugging it all about. All the bonus of a buggy without the stress of a baby Grin and as dd1 is 11, and nearly as big as me, I'm sorely tempted to take my own turn Grin. I wonder if I could train my 3 to push me about when I need a rest!

ShiftyFades · 15/07/2015 07:21

We are looking at hiring a scooter for me as my ankle is just too painful, even if it wasn't it will be going from nothing for 2-3months to walking 5 miles a day Confused
We have one ordered for my mum so I think I might join her, DH is keen to hire it.

PandasRock · 15/07/2015 14:56

Do it do it do it!

Dh had a scooter last time we went as he had recently had knee surgery. Again, somewhere to stash a bag to avoid carrying it all day. And one or other of my girls would hop on and sit on his lap for a quick rest (or some wheelies and handbrake turns Hmm Grin) occasionally. it really saved the holiday - no one wants to be tired and sore on holiday.

Fleurdelise · 15/07/2015 18:04

Can I join this thread?

We booked flights a couple o days ago with Thomas Cook and also booked a villa in Davenport. We're going in July/August 2016 and we're doing 8 nights at the parks and 9 nights in the Coast.

I am a DisneyWorld virgin, never been before, and so are my kids (8 and 14).

Can somebody put my mind to rest and reassure me that there is plenty to do for a 15 yo boy (15 next year) at the parks as I had a (very quick) look at the MK and it looked very kiddie like. Am I wrong? Hmm

We are all so excited, so much so that I forgot to be excited about our Spain holiday in two weeks time.

Also we haven't booked the DW tickets yet, is it worth booking now or am I ok waiting till next early next year? Any deals I could loose?

Fleurdelise · 15/07/2015 18:05

Forgot to say dd is 9 next year and I am sure she'll love every second of it! Smile

Fleurdelise · 15/07/2015 18:56

I am so confused now! I am reading the thread from the beginning and I have found the discovery Cove. Can somebody who knows about it explain how it works? You buy tickets that are valid 14 days? As in the discovery cove and 2/3 more parks that you can access for 14 days? Is the discovery cove for just one day? Their website is a bit confusing.

Also I am now tempted to do Disney World on a 2 day pass only and the discovery cove/sea world/Busch gardens for the rest.

Would that be wrong?

BloodyDogHairs · 15/07/2015 18:57

Loads for a 15yr old, my Dd actually enjoys it more the older she gets Grin

Ticket wise keep a eye on for offers, companies are pretty much the same price but they vary on the free gift...ie tickets for other attractions etc. I've always used Attraction tickets direct, they are fab to deal with.

BloodyDogHairs · 15/07/2015 18:59

Discovery Cove is a one day thing, the other parks are unlimited for 14 days. Seaworld isn't really that great so one day two days at a push and BG is about an hours drive away, great park tho for the bigger rides.

Fleurdelise · 15/07/2015 19:21

Thank you!

So all in all would 2 days Disney and 5 days discovery cove plus the other 3 parks be better for my 9 and 15 yo (next year) or do you think I should stick to DW for the full 7 days?

Oh I am now so confused... Doing 7 days DW and discovery cove on top is not an option from a budget point of view as we are going by the coast also...

PandasRock · 15/07/2015 19:29

I've only been to DW. there are 4 parks plus 2 water parks included on the Disney tickets. I believe you pay for Discovery Cove by the day - the other parks are included on a Discovery cove ticket, but you only get 1 day admission to DC.

BloodyDogHairs · 15/07/2015 19:30

If it was me I'd do DiscoveryCove/Seaworld/BG with the 2 disney days....do you need to do Disney? Universal would be amazing for your 15yr ds! (and alot cheaper than disney).

Disney parks for me would be Hollywood studios and Animal kingdom or 2 days at Magic KingdomGrin

BloodyDogHairs · 15/07/2015 19:31

And book your DC day at the start of your plans incase you get bad weather and need to rebook.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 15/07/2015 19:48

Epcot & Hollywood Studios are great Disney parks too and you can't miss those! I agree that Universal and IoA would be good for your DS. Personally I wouldn't be bothering with 9 days at the beach - you can do beaches anywhere but you can't do Disney & Universal anywhere else! If you're short on time then I'd give Busch & SeaWorld a miss - they can't compare to the Disney parks & Universal (unless you are really into thrill rides in which case Busch would be good).

Fleurdelise · 15/07/2015 19:51

I suppose I need to go to DW (at least Magic Kingdom) as that was the initial aim Grin

So dd (8) is now expecting it. I could sit them down I suppose and give them the options but I feel like cheating going all this way and not touching DW...
