Are there any reclining car seats for 4 year old?

My son sleeps like a log, and when asleep in his car seat, tips right forward, which is really alarming!

I bought the cerbex solution, as they advertise this as stopping that problem, but it doesn't for DS.

Are there any car seats I can recline to stop him falling forward when asleep - I have searched but haven't found anything. Or any other good tips...?

Thanks!

my 4 year old is in a maxi cosi priori which reclines

The Britax Evolva 123 has a slight recline position but you fix it when you secure the seat and can't easily change it. Not sure it will prevent forward head movement but it does have high head protection. dd snoozes comfortably in it in upright mode.

Thanks - are these the car seats up to 4, or the 4-11 year old ones? I had bought the cybex as he is a tall lad, and this one was supposed to do him until he was too big for car seats.

I dont know if this is a problem I have purely because he sleeps so soundly (gets this from his father) and turns into a dead weight as soon as he nods off.

do you have ISOFIX points in your car? we have the Jane Indy Plus car seats, when anchored in with isofix, you can pull the base forward and have the seat reclined slightly. its enough to keep my 2 laying back slightly and not lolling about all over the place.

Evolva 123 goes from (theoretically) 9kg up to whenever they cease to use a car seat. It has a harness for up to 18kg then uses adult belt as a highback booster beyond.

I think children always slump forwards don't they .. and they are so bendy it does look alarming but I don't think it is so much

why does it worry you .. is it the car seat the tips forward or just your DS .. can you just push him upright every so often?

NannyL · 10/11/2006 18:33

its alarming because of you are in a crash when the child is not properly sitting in his ofr her car seat the seat will not protect them and child is likely to be injured or even die...

missing my sleep is quiet right to be concerned about it!

I ahve a highliner and you can angle it a bit into a lie back position but not that much to be honest!

Thanks for these tips I will check out these seats online and see hwat i can find out.

The seat doesnt tip, just DS, but he leans sooo far foward, not just head on chest type of thing, that I had to pull over to sort him out - but if I am on the motorway or something I have to drive until I can pull over, and it scares me as I think if someone hits us when he is like that he won't stand a chance.

I have emailed the people I bought the car seat from to see if they have any tips. I am hoping that it is something I am doing wrong, then I can fix it, rather than find out that this is just a limitation of this stage of car seat.

Someoen has advised the Graco Rally Sport has a reclining seat - has anyone heard of this one, or any experience to advise, before I end up with as many car seats as I have buggies.....

The older Graco model of their high back boosters (around £40) did poorly in Which ? safety reports, the newer more expensive one hasn't been tested afaik. Can you visit a retailer to test them out. Suspect you'll find a similar problem with it thoguh.

MissingMySleep · 11/11/2006 16:31

Maybe instead of looking at carseat, I need to look at son, and work out ways to wedge him in an bit....

not much use to you, but my car has integrated child seats in 2 of the cars own seats. which recline right back. maybe you should buy a caravelle

sorry. more helpfully; do any of the seats the car seat can be attached to, recline? if so, would it pull the back of the seat back far enough to help?

MissingMySleep · 11/11/2006 16:54

Oh my goodness I think you may have cracked it for me. We have a Zafira and the middle seats do move all the way forward and have a number of reclin positions. We recently had the back seats (the ones in the boot) up for a while and the problem has been since putting the back seats away again - I bet I have set the middle seats up too straight!

Tomorrow am I will get out there and redo them and see what happens. I had wondered why this was happening now when we have had that seat since the summer. I was starting to think it was to do with the extra bulk of winter coats.

Thank you so much, I wouldn't have thought of that - my brain has melted since having these two.
