Bed bugs in New York?

Dp wants to take me to New York for our 20thanniversary in July , no kids. I know that's romantic and I should be over the moon BUT I've heard there's a bed bug infestation there and I'm genuinely creeped out since I heard that! I can't stop thinking about it and how gross it would be to get them....eewwww!!! I'm too Blush to mention it to him . Am I just mad? Anyone ?

I don't think bed bugs are rampant! If you could encourage you DH to double check reviews on TripAdvisor I am sure you will be fine.

I'd also get him to check what the weather is like. Mid June always seems a bit hot and humid for me and my conferences....

you can get bed bugs anywhere, regardless of budget, although they are more common in places where people bring their own bedding.

you get them in the UK too.

Someone said this to me when we went to NY too and that was a few years ago. If it IS an infestation, it's a bloody long one and I'd have thought that the bed bugs would have taken over the world by now! So I'm inclined to believe it's an urban myth.

However...... Look for signs of bed bugs before you sleep. Lift and turn the pillows, look for stains around the pillow area and the edges of the mattress. I always do this in hotels anyway because the stories I was told about bed bugs coming back with someone and practically eating their entire house scared me (sofa, bed, wardrobe etc - again probably not true!)

I have heard the same OP, but it was a few years ago. I would check out some other forums, travel ones, you know - see if the situation is still the same.

There must be some advice on google about how to minimise the likelihood of bringing beasties home.
