What to do in London with a toddler?

Right, so a week on Friday I am coming to London (for the big meet-up) with my mum and dd in tow and as we'll be there for the weekend I wondered if anyone knew of any places/activities that are good for toddlers??

Dd is 2.7.

Thanks!

Science museum without a doubt. Brill!
And if they get bored (as if) they can go to Natural History next door.

South Kensington

sleepingbag · 08/11/2006 20:17

in south kensington, hope you have a fun weekend

I vote for the Science Museum too. There's a great children's area in the basement. DS loves it. Victoria & Albert Museum also in South Ken so plenty to do. Another recommendation is the Princess Diana memorial playground in Kensington Gardens. It's all Peter Pan themed with a huge pirate ship, sand pits, the Lost Boys' bridges, Indian teepees, etc. Fantastic.

The Diana Memorial gardens in Kensington Gardens are amazing. Peter Pan theme. Massive sandpits. Little streams. Wendy houses. Slides. Little boats. Musical/sensory garden.
Absolutely brilliant. DD loves it (has been since she was about 2 and is now 3and a half). Well worth a visit. And freeeeee!
Aquarium is brilliant but would recommend pre-buying tickets on-line to save on queues.
The Tate Modern has the fab slides atm (only for older kids really but fun to watch and nice restaurant).
City Hall has a nice cafe.
The London Eye? That's worth a visit (again pre-book).
St.James's Park has a nice small kids play park, all wooden and sandy and rocky but not massive. Very near to Buckingham Palace and if you time it right you can see changing of the guard (usually 10.45ish you can hear the horseguards making their way to the palace. look at www.royal.gov.uk
Loads to do.

Thanks guys, will definitely be down in S. Kensington I expect...

I'd like to go on the London Eye but might have to persuade my mum who has been twice!

Selfish!

Science Museum basement is unmissable. However Discover is also really marvellous, and very good value for money.

What a useful thread. Thanks to the tips on here my ds, dh and I just had a great weekend at the science museum, Diana playground, natural history museum and Harrods toy department - phew! Have to say the basement of the science museum (called The Garden), designed especially for under 6s - as recommended by several MNs - was absolutely fantastic. My ds was in heaven.
Natural history not quite so exciting to him as yet, but he did like the room on the human body - lots of buttons to push!
