This is the only time we can go due to school hols and exams.
Mexico looks rainy,
Mauritius poss a bit chilly and windy.
Florida looks boiling hot!

Poss Koh Samui will be dry?

I'm driving myself nuts trying to organise this.
We are going for a special occasion so we want to go long haul and have a budget of about 6K for 4 of us.

please help me!

I've been to Antigua many times in July/August. Whilst there might be storms, it tends to rain for a short while and then gets on with the nice weather.

ihatethecold · 09/05/2015 17:27

Hawaii is too far also, lovely as I'm sure it is!

No worries Queen, you weren't rude, just stating facts.

Cuba will be hot but TBH I wasn't keen, we've had much better holidays in Europe.
Unless it really has to be long haul I'd really recommend Corsica.

ihatethecold · 09/05/2015 17:32

Is Corsica Similar to Sardinia? in terms of scenery, beaches etc?

Just go short haul and guarantee the weather.
Possibly missing the point, but it sounds like you want the weather to be good.So why would you go to the expense of a long haul when you may spend the entire time being pissed down on when the weather can be more guaranteed more cheaply and in beautiful places Confused

dailyfix · 09/05/2015 17:38

They are close but have different flavours. IME the beaches tend to be bigger on Sardinia and it's a bit more glam but Corsica is prettier & the food is amazing.

We have been to Mexico twice, it rained once.

In Cuba it rained twice but in the evening.

In Hawaii we had a bit of a spit and a spot one morning, still sunny.

We are going to Hawaii again in August.

bigTillyMint · 09/05/2015 17:41

I agree, Krabi is a trek unless there is some way of flying there directly!

And dailyfix is right, we have also done lots of places in the rainy season - it generally means anything between the odd shower and a very heavy but short-lived downpour and hot the rest of the time. Not like miserable rainy days hereSmile

ihatethecold · 09/05/2015 17:47

I really don't mind a short sharp shower to clear the air.

Just don't want rain all day for days on end.

Highly recommend the Caribbean Grin

ihatethecold · 09/05/2015 17:59

Caribbean is a huge area though. You might need to be more specific. Smile

We went to Hawaii in August and it was fantastic. Perfect sunshine, perfect beaches. I would go back to Maui in a heartbeat. Long trip from the UK though.

IDismyname · 09/05/2015 18:06

YY avoid Faliraki...

My teenage DS is off there for a week early July :)

WanttoFindWorkLifeBalance · 09/05/2015 18:07

We did borneo in august once and it was amazing with no bad weather (but maybe we were lucky).

dailyfix · 09/05/2015 18:17

We went here. I think it's got much more expensive though.

Apologies for post. Thought this was in chat.

QueenJuggler · 09/05/2015 18:37

Santorini is nice. Very glam hotels.

I would 100% avoid the Caribbean in the summer. It's the height of hurricane season. You might get brilliant weather, but you might be evacuated to storm shelters. Risky.

I think those who say the rainy season in Asia is just short shower have never experienced a proper monsoon downpour. Rain that floods streets, flushes insects and rats out of storm drains, turns sand into something approaching mud. Not to mention the fact that its low season - which means a whole lot of stuff is shut.

[shrug] I've been to Antigua 6 times in July/August.

And I grew up there for a big chunk of my childhood.

helloalll · 09/05/2015 19:06

Bali is good in July and August- Full of British honeymooners!

MomOrMum · 09/05/2015 19:16

Zanzibar? Beaches are incredible!

QueenJuggler · 09/05/2015 19:21

Zanzibar is amazing! It won't be too hot, nice and dry, and also not a big time difference, so you don't have jet lag to content with. Beautiful white sand beaches, blue, blue skies, crystal clear water. Worth considering, definitely.

silveracorn · 09/05/2015 19:25

Middle East - Tunisia or Egypt will be roasting, but maybe not far enough away?

silveracorn · 09/05/2015 19:27

Oh yes Zanzibar is a great idea. Gorgeous swimming too. Or Kenya - Mombassa coast is lovely and the weather is fine.

nannyafrica · 09/05/2015 19:27

On at the sea but on the most beautiful fresh water lake with over 1000 different fish to see snorkeling or diving. Also about an hours drive you could be on safari watching elephants at Liwonde National Park
