Yosemite in July - how hot/busy?

Says it all really! Thinking about doing an RV trip next July (beginning). Put off by the thought of how hot it might be (too hot to walk about?) and the crowds...

Can anyone give me a bit of perspective? Thanks!

we went last august. It was hot (c. 28 degrees) but bearable, especially in yosemite itself, as its all lovely trees!

(Top tip - take a fitted sheet with you for the double bed - its vinyl, and their nice cotton flat sheets slide all over the place!!)

We went in 1986 and drove up from Death Valley where it was very hot, to the top, where we ended up putting on trousers and sweatshirts. Basically, it depends on what altitude you are at.

Once we got down the other side we didn't find it too hot.

We also did Death Valley in July....wondered why we were the only guests in hotel Confused

Yosemite was quite a nice relief afterwards.

Yosemite Valley will be hot, very crowded and there will be limited water about due to the severe drought in California right now. If this is your only chance to see Yosemite - go anyway. It is amazing. And outside Yosemite Valley there are far fewer crowds and some tremendously beautiful landscape. Do some research and you will have a very good time, despite the crowds and the heat. Do keep an eye on the water situation, though. I imagine the falls will be pretty dry by July this year.

Great, that sounds OK. We're Scottish so anything above 20C is boiling!

cross posted with you base9. Thanks - it's next year. We're planning to go to Grand Sequoia too.

We're in Texas and lots of our friends went to Yosemite at Easter because summer is very hot and touristy. The USA schools are on holiday until mid august ..... Would you consider going last couple of weeks of August? Would be much cheaper, less crowded and possibly a little cooler......

RosieLig · 25/04/2015 23:09

Thanks again. We can't go late August unfortunately as the children will be back at school (Scotland). Sounds like it may be better at Easter or in October. I can't bear it too hot!
