Just how hot would Provence be at the end of July?

We've been to Provence at end of May and end of October. Both times it's lovely; warm but not too hot, but we're looking to go again but because of work and school could only do end of August. Dp have been at beginning of September and said its nice and not too hot, so wondering if August will be doable. We will have a pool but I'm not good with very hot and we want to be able to go out and explore a bit and not so hot we just can't do anything.

We are also considering leaving a day early and stoping off via tgv at eurodisney in the way down if anyone knows about or has done is and whether it works well.

Which bit of Provence are you planning on going to? It is VERY hot, but ok by the coast, and if you have a siesta after lunch like the natives do.

I love it there - could quite happily live there if only I could afford it

We go in August most years and find it doable with a pool. We do most sightseeing, climbing, cycling etc in the morning/evening and spend the afternoon in the pool. Which area are you going to?

Oh, we won't be near the coast, it's the vacluse area if t know it. About an hour from Avignon.

I don't mind a day or two very hot but not a whole week, I'd need a rest from it and want to do stuff. I also wouldn't want dd to spend too much time in the pool as there's no shade there just full sun.

Would like to visit (this is all from memory so don't know all names) louemarin, gordes, maybe rousillon (the ochre place etc in that vicinity.

Dd is four, not sure what she'd do except the pool. Tbh it's me that really really wants to go but worried we'll get there and dd will just moan and not want to do anything if it's too hot.

Online average temperatures look like 28, so does it get a lot hotter?

I wouldn't do it without a pool.

I nannied one summer in Provence in a farmhouse without a pool and nowhere near the coast. I'm more of a water baby than most but Christ it was hard work.

It can be hotter quite easily. I live in the Centre and it's often mid 30s in July and August (today it was 27°c). Weather reports rarely go above high 20s though so not very reliable! However, last year was a bit iffy, even when we were down south it rarely reached 30°c.

Hmm.... Not sure if I'd cope then.

Would the d of August likely be cooler than peak hot summer, or is it still in that super hot season? My family went last September so maybe it was just that it was just cooler going by castles comment.

Has anyone done Eurostar direct to Avignon? This looks a really good way to do it to save connection to tgv at Lille or Paris but just looked and it said something about changing at Lyons or Lille?? So it's not direct in one train? You have to change? I'm unclear.

There's a car train that goes to Frejus. That's great. not helpful
