Anyone been to Cap Esterel in the South of France?

I'd love to go to the South of France this year and the photos of this resort look amazing. I have 2 dc, 12 and 8, and I think they'd love the activities and the pools. From the reviews though it seems a bit marmite - some rave reviews and some dire ones, not much in between!
I'm not bothered by basic and small accommodation as long as it's reasonably clean. Also not bothered by reviews saying staff are rude, the French always seem to get a bad press and it's never stopped us going there!
Mainly worried that there will be lots of extras to pay for once there and it will be difficult to get around the area by public transport (we are not planning to take a car).
Any tips or hints greatfully received!

Possibly not very helpful but we had a family holiday there in around 1998 and my parents still talk about it as one of the best ones we had! I remember the pool and ice cream and can vouch for them Smile. Hopefully someone with a more up to date experience will be along soon...

I haven't been to that particular hotel but we stayed in a camp site in Agay last Summer. The area was lovely and we had a few days out along the coast to Saint-Raphael, Saint Tropez and Monaco. We had our own car which made sight seeing easier. I don't remember seeing any buses but I believe there was a train line running along the coast (not sure if I'm getting confused with somewhere else, sorry).

I used to live near there; it's absolutely beautiful. I think the issue people may have is that the Pierre et Vacances facilities are a bit old, but the location is stunning. A train service and coastal road run just below the site and you can go all the way to the Italian border or to Marseille easily on the train. As for extras, what do you think you might need? That information should be on the PV website...or do you mean extras outside that?

Thank you - I wasn't expecting replies so soon! Sounds as though the area's great and I'm sure we'd love the beaches and towns. I'm guessing that if it's difficult or expensive to get around by public transport we could spend the majority of our time on the complex anyway.
I've checked the p&v website and there are some free activities and lots that are payable - I think I'm mainly worried that the free activities will be a bit naff and the kids will end up wanting to do all the expensive ones!

The train is not expensive OP. I don't know what activities your DC enjoy, but there are free public beaches. How about hiring bikes? The coast road is glorious, you can smell the wildflowers and enjoy the fantastic scenery. I am really getting nostalgic now!

Thanks I'm glad I posted - I was definitely keen on booking but the reviews made me a bit hesitant. Sounds like it will all be lovely. Flowers
