We are thinking of taking dd (2.8yrs). Worth a visit? When is the best time to go etc?
TIA

yes, there is a website.
Good but busy up to Christmas - there is a Santas Grotto and it gets v busy.
Mid week is best with a toddler.

DD loves it in the summer.

Bump any feedback. Thinking of going tomorrow. Is it any good for 6yr olds?

jujuthejetmum · 12/04/2007 15:59

We went on the Saturday of Easter weekend and although it was busy it didn't make it unpleasant. It opens at 10. I was thinking of going back again tommorrow too.

We arrived at 12.30ish and waited until late afternoon before going on the rides when most people had been on. The wait for the rides is nothing like the big theme parks though.

It's a theme park especially aimed at the under 10's and I saw big brothers and sisters having fun with the little ones and they we're complaining so sure your 6 year old will love it. There are pirate themes, cowboy theme and farm themes.

I have a 5year old Ds and 2 year old DD and plenty to do for both without going on rides. If weather is nice there is a good sized sandpit area with slides, lots of other play areas and discovery areas, rides, gocarts and picnic areas.

Lots of little play houses for the kids to play in. There is an indoor soft playcentre serving hot food and a snack bar serving take away food and snacks next to the under 5's playarea.

I have happy memories of going as a child 35 years ago when it was pets corner because of the little houses. It's £8 each to get in but although I initially had a moan it was worth it rather than paying per ride - we'd have spent a lot more at the coast!

Have fun!!! Let us know what you thought.

SlightlyMadSlug · 12/04/2007 16:11

The coast is the althernative which am trying to talk DP out of

It is on the borderline of being too far. I have yet to convince DP that it will be cheaper and better (given the time of year) than the coast

SlightlyMadSlug · 12/04/2007 16:12

If you go look out for a mad woman with Blonde DTDs (6) with very long hair and a tiny 11m old in the pushchair!!!

Clary · 12/04/2007 16:13

DH took the children last summer with Grandma and they really loved it. They were 3, 5 and 7 if that's any help.

Themed on storybook idea, rides, picnic etc.

jujuthejetmum · 12/04/2007 16:45

I'm equally slighty mad too so likely to approach the wrong woman with Blonde DTDs with long hair and LO in the pushchair to say hi and get myself a "F**K off crazy woman" or something.

Suprised by my DH he usually doesn't do theme parks but was happy to park his bum and let them get on with and he found it pretty stress free so hope you manage to convince your Hubby.

My DS made friends with a little girl who had travelled 1 1/2 hours to get there (they said it was worth it) and he was heart broken when we left.

jujuthejetmum · 12/04/2007 16:54

slightly

SlightlyMadSlug · 12/04/2007 17:17

It would be 1 1/2hr for us according to AA - compared with 2hrs for the coast on a crap day. I know which I would prefer.

UnquietDad · 12/04/2007 17:22

Yes, we've been there. Children loved it, I walked around thinking "Christ, what a godawful place, full of tat, over-priced, like some mini cut-price toddler Disneyland."

Gingerbear · 12/04/2007 17:24

Take your own picnic - the cafe is a horrible greasy spoon and expensive.

UnquietDad · 12/04/2007 17:29

yes, I'd endorse that!

SlightlyMadSlug · 12/04/2007 17:32

Deffo do own picnic. Always do to these sort of places - too expensive to pay to get in and THEN buy food on top.

So UQD - is that a recommendation or steer clear?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 12/04/2007 20:31

Its 10minutes away from me so have taken dd a few times. She's 6 and loves it. Definetly take own food.

SlightlyMadSlug · 12/04/2007 23:32

DP seems to have one.....we are going to wander aroundendless arcases at teh seaside tomorrow....dull....boring....dull.

luckylady74 · 12/04/2007 23:47

i thought it was quite sweet in a grown over time kind of way but tack doesn't bother me as a child whitley bay was holiday of choice! - if you're going for a chid focussed way it's one of the best - where are you - twinlakes at melton mowbry is good[my personal fave because my 5 yr old with sn said he was 'flying like a bird' on the ride where they lie down and fly! ]whitepost farm farnsfield is good too. i'd say sundown needs good weather more than most so tomorrow would be good.
if it's the lincs east coast i'd rather not - i can't bear driving for 2 hours through sunshine to the coast where it's always windy and usually cloudy [skegness is not bracing it's just cold"!]

SlightlyMadSlug · 14/04/2007 21:57

well we went to the beach in teh end

jujuthejetmum · 17/04/2007 11:32

awwhhh poor you - just read your thread.
I did think of you wondered what you had decided to do. Are you OK now?

If it's any consolation the weather wasn't great here, foggy and misty, the sun didn't come out until late afternoon. I hope you get a nice weather day if you decide to go sometime.

I had a Sh*t day too Friday but I'm OK now.

SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 20:53

Yes I am better now thankyou....

...also know who will have the casting vote next time

Loshad · 23/04/2007 22:20

other thing is to avoid like mad in the wasp season, alwasy full of the blighters, and children always being stung.
