Hi all

I am sick of the usual boring Mother and toddler groups which ok I admit for the baba's they are ok but the mums all sit around bored stiffless. My experience with these are all church halls (almost always freezing), town/ halls or community centres. I dont live in a city but have heard of places where mums and babies can go which are cosy & comfy, you can have lunch etc that do classes that are exciting and fun and have a laugh as mums during the day any day, not being restricted to say 2 hours once a week. It can be lonely for SAHM's so I am thinking of maybe looking into starting something like this but need some ideas. Do you think it appeal to everyone? What would you like to have, ie to go to at a minutes notice when you need some company and doesnt cost alot? Appreciate anyones input. As you can see I am a SAHM looking to liven up mine and baba's life.

I had lots of SAHM friends and found that the summer was fine - we would all go to the park for 'teddy bear picnic' or similar.

The problem is finding like-minded mums - I used to run our local m&t group in the hope i could liven it up, but frankly a lot of the mums were so drippy it was harder to get them animated than it was to engage the children!

We tended to fall back on indoor play areas with a separate cafe or restaurants with a play area.

Mum & baby swim sessions were good - I met a few lively types there. Other than that in the winter we used to take turns to go to someone's house in the hope that we could have some interesting conversation while the babies played together.

There were local 'multi sport' sessions with a creche - 2 hours split into aerobics or yoga followed by badminton or hockey, which was quite funny as we were fairly rubbish at it!

I definitely had scrambled egg for brains till ds2 went to full time school and i could start being a person again - though I've never regretted staying at home with them.

I still only work 17 hours a week and they're in years 7 & 8.

Hope your idea works for you

Yeah Fortyplus I know what you mean. I was thinking maybe it was the surroundings that made it seem so dreary or is everyone just stuck up lol.
The thing is there is a soft play centre near me but you cant hear yourself let alone chat to anyone. I also had the idea of maybe running a few workshops for mums along with the babies or without, Parenting based or just a giggle.

Sounds good to me - I would've gone demented without a network of close friends in a similar position.

Ahhh - the fond memories of those vodka mornings!
