If you are rubbish with money then any holiday is expensive. look at how much you could save each week/month and put it somewhere that you cant touch or with someone that means you cant get at it. I used to give my savings pass book to my mum. that's the real issue not the cost of the holiday.

Ihavenobrain · 01/04/2015 13:55

Mummymeister yep that's true.
I'm better than dh. Have saved some already and he hasn't.
Getting a joint bank account and I'm taking over the money. Very determined now!
I WILL go abroad Smile

Where is hot at Easter?

Mumblechum1 · 01/04/2015 15:10

We spend ridiculous amounts on holidays. Have sometimes blown over £35k per annum BUT

We have no mortgage
We are in our 50s now and as DH says whenever I try to rein him in, we have a limited number of years left with good health.
So when we can no longer get up the plane steps on our Zimmer frames we'll get sensible.

Ihavenobrain Southern Spain will be hot. We're off for a long weekend in Seville later in April and expecting 24c.

Ihavenobrain · 01/04/2015 15:41

I hope I'm in that position when I'm
50!
Good for you. I agree. You can't take it with you. Wink

Last year we paid £1900 for a week AI in Ibiza. Nice town, average hotel. 2 adults, 2 children - summer holidays. We could have paid a lot more and had a nicer hotel but we just wanted sun & sand.

Ihavenobrain · 01/04/2015 17:56

Youlllike
When did you book it and who through. Sounds perfect for me Smile

Sent a PM.

bimandbam · 01/04/2015 20:56

We have just paid £950ish for a family of 4 to tenerife in june. And £500 for a caravan for a week in august at skegness.

I know which one I am looking forward to most!

Ihavenobrain · 01/04/2015 23:13

Thank you that's great.

We are going to Lanzarote in may and paid 1500 that's for 2a2c AI- booked a year in advance to ensure that we got a free child's place. This is through First Choice Splashworld. Its not 5* but I'm sure that it will more than meet our needs of beach and sun Grin

I would also happily consider a sun holiday to salou in the future, my DC are still young and I think they would enjoy this. It seems, from looking at skyscanner, that we can book cheap flights

Hope that helps x

IsabellaofFrance · 05/04/2015 10:37

DIY can be cheaper than packages. We do this most years.

We are paying £1960 for 2 weeks in a French farmhouse with pool - that includes accommodation and ferry.

6Musiclover · 05/04/2015 19:45

Yes OP can easily pay 3k and a lot more besides! We are spending around 3k this year on our summer holiday. We booked it all sepretaly but had we booked it as a package it would have been £1000 more!

On the other end of the the scale, we have spent just £500 for a week over Easter on a european city break.

Next year we are budgeting around 6,000 for a special holiday, celebrating a special birthday and an anniversary!

uggmum · 05/04/2015 19:53

We are paying €6500 for 2 week villa hire in the South of France.
Then add on £1k for travel and £600 for car hire.
We are also going to Paris for a few days after that and will need to add on accommodation for that.
Plus spending money for the entire time. We eat out every night. I don't cook when I'm on holiday.

6Musiclover · 06/04/2015 08:56

Do people have a holiday fund,- as in do they put aside a certain amount aside for holidays each month?

We have just opened an account specifically to save for holidays. Won't be able to put as much in as we wou like this year , as we need a new car.
All hols paid for for this year, but saving for next year.

Ihavenobrain · 14/04/2015 16:55

justonemoretime2p · 16/04/2015 00:49

Paid over 3k a night last year for a special holiday.

Heels99 · 16/04/2015 11:13

Yes we have a holiday fund we pay into monthly.

Heels99 · 16/04/2015 11:14

£3k per night!!!!

Wow that must have been some amazing holiday!!!

Just one more time tell us more about your fab trip, was it worth it?

Ihavenobrain · 16/04/2015 12:57

Yes do tell.
Where abouts? Grin

justonemoretime2p · 16/04/2015 17:23

Four seasons Maldives, private accommodation with a private pool and directly on the beach.
It was beautiful and had some amazing diving, we probably could have stayed at a much cheaper hotel and had as much fun but the extreme luxury was nice.

Ihavenobrain · 16/04/2015 19:41

Wow. How lovely.
Don't think I'll ever afford that. Smile

OP posts:
justonemoretime2p · 17/04/2015 00:46

You don't need to afford it to have an equally positive Holliday.
My biggest tip for the Caribbean is if you can afford it fly business class and have an air miles account with someone.

Heels99 · 17/04/2015 09:43

Yes I don't think I would ever pay £30k for a holidsy, could have 3 or 4 really great holidays for that.
