Hi

Have toyed with Turkey for a couple of years now. We are restricted to school hols and have 2 children age 7 and 3. Has anyone any experiences of the heat in July? I am looking at the Hilton dalaman or the Gloria resort?

It will be very hot & could also be very humid.

Much as I love Turkey (& have been going every year for the last 15+ years) I would not go in July or August.

Here is a record of last year's temps in Dalaman for August.

We always go to Turkey at the end of July. Yes, it is hot, here is what it was like last July:
www.accuweather.com/en/tr/dalaman/319473/month/319473?monyr=7/01/2014
So averaging high 30s.

We are fine with the heat and our children have been going since they were babies.

It was the same kind of temperature whwn we went to Spain one year and you always have a cooling breeze on the coast.

I love Turkey, it is my No.1 holiday destination Smile

I'm fine with the heat but I found Turkey unbearable in June. We only went to the beach once and spent most of the time sat in restaurants drinking coke as it was too hot to consider sightseeing or anything like that. It was in the middle of a heatwave but it has put me off Turkey in mid summer.

budgiegirl · 09/04/2015 00:52

It's very hot! We were there last summer, and one day it reached 109! It's fine if all you want to do is hang out at the pool, but it's too hot for sightseeing

Pontycarloandcasvegas · 21/04/2015 07:45

Went to Gloria resort last August - highly recommend it but tbh it was too hot to do sightseeing etc which we would have liked to do. Meant we didnt leave the resort which was a shame.

I was at Gloria in August two summers ago (brilliant!), here's a link
The temperature was fine for us, about 30, although when my sister went the summer after, she experienced a freak heat wave that took the temps much higher.
It's actually a great place to be in the heat. You wouldn't want to do the waterslides if it's much cooler than that and it meant the sea was a lovely temperature for swimming. There is lots of greenery and shade in the resort which helps too.
Obviously in the heat of the day, you step inside for the air con, and there are loads of indoor activities (soft play, cinema, basketball, bowling, omg it was amazing) so this is not a bad option at all.

We went a few years ago for a fortnight in August. It was hot, but not unbearably so if by the coast and you had somewhere air-conditioned to retreat to at the hottest point.

We went to Gümbet near Bodrum and did quite a bit of sight-seeing: Ephesus / Pamukkale / Sulpher mud-bathing & Turtle Beach / Bodrum Castle / boat trip down the coast and I went horse trekking.

We had a wonderful time and would go back again when DC is a little bigger.

HomeHelpMeGawd · 01/05/2015 22:29

It's hot but it's not too hot. And Hillside Beach Club is worth looking at!

Mintyy · 01/05/2015 22:32

It depends what you want to do.

If you want to be in striking distance of a pool or air conditioned shade for two whole weeks then it might be ok.

Does anyone think Turkey is good at end of May?

theknackster · 01/05/2015 22:52

Yes, end of May is lovely. You get the odd cloudy day, and maybe a thunderstorm, but it's fantastic.

havemercy · 01/05/2015 23:04

Woohoo! Thank you, may be a good option for half-term

theknackster · 01/05/2015 23:13

We're going this half term, for the third year running Smile. Can't recommend it (Dalyan, to be specific) enough, to be honest.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 04/05/2015 16:32

Turkey is lovely at the end of May, the weather is hot but not too hot but is warm in the evenings too and the sea and pools have warmed up. Everything is open but it is not too busy. I great time to go :)
