Seat size on long haul flights

I planning a dream trip to the USA in the autumn. I've put on a lot of weight since the last time I flew and am secretly worried about how well the plane seat will cope with my 'generous' curves.
Can anyone advise as to seat size? I'm trying to lose weight, but all previous attempts have not been successful. ??

It depends on the airline and aeroplane exactly what seat dimension are.
Typically, all are 17-18 inches wide. The biggest difference is in the space before the next seat (pitch or leg room).

What sort of size are you at the moment?

I am, er, very generously proportioned at the moment myself.

BA economy class is good because it has movable arm rests so my hips fit ok.

I can get the table down but it's sometimes a tight squeeze.

They have recently lengthened the seatbelts so they are more generous. The flight attendant will always give you a seatbelt extension too.

I think it will be uncomfortable for you but for me the worst part would be if the seat belt didn't fit and I had to ask for an extension. Ive seen it happen to others an it looks humiliating.

Wee birdie - if you have to shout across three rows and an aisle it can be a bit embarrassing but IME most flight attendants are lovely and discreet about it and hand them over without too much song and dance.

It depends on the aircraft and how many seats are in each row. Basically Airbuses (A380, A330/A340) and 777 with 9 abreast seating have the widest seats. You can look on seat guru to give you a guide but they're not always totally accurate. Which airlines are you looking at?

If you've got the dosh you could also think about booking premium economy, you typically get at least an extra inch, which may not sound much but is quite a lot in this context.

I should add to avoid the 787 like the plague. Miniscule seats.

Look on Seat Guru it tells you what each airline uses as their seat configuration and pitch depending on aircraft. I think most airlines show what plane you will be travelling on before you book so you can see the best seats to prebook as well.
