What is a good company for travel insurance?

We are going to Egypt and I need to take a travel insurance out that would allow me to get back to my mother if there is an emergency. She is in a nursing home and after a major fall last year, I need to be on stand-by in case anything serious happens. Will any travel insurance company offer such a policy?

Tesco is good for travel insurance, But phone them up to check whether this would be covered under the policy...

most policies will cover this kind of scenario for a parent. But if you have a holiday booked and no travel insurance you need to sort this YESTERDAY.

there is no one 'good' company, depends on your circumstances. Just don't buy from the travel agent as that will be hugely over priced.

Yes but many exclude pre-existing conditions. for example I can get travel insurance quite easily for DS with SN but if I want a policy to cover illness as a result of the SN most policies do not do this and I have to look more at the policy documents to check the specific clauses. You also need to check that the cancellation cover includes close family. If you are happy checking the policy documents yourself that is fine, but often it is good to talk to the insurance company because you can say "so-and-so agent at this time on this day confirmed that this was the appropriate insurance policy after I specifically asked".

Go compare offers a reasonable search of travel insurance for pre-existing conditions but again that is conditions of the people travelling (and often they exclude treatment as a result of a known condition)

There are companies that are good in that they are reasonable to discuss your personal circumstances with and relatively easy to deal with if you have to make a claim. For example I know Tesco have been good handling a claim in the past and good in the extent of what they will cover so I would describe it as a good company. When I worked in Insurance they were also good to deal with compared to other companies. So yes I would describe them as a good company.
