Short break in a seaside city

Does anyone have any recommendations for a city break, in Europe and preferably sunnier/warmer than in the UK, for the Easter period?

Ideally it'd be by the sea and/or within reach by public transport of nice countryside, but I'd like a decent-sized city with good places to eat, galleries and culture, nice architecture. I'd probably rather self-cater but would look at small, relaxed hotels too.

Nice is lovely.

Got to be Barcelona.

Sitges is lovely, and 30 mins from Barcelona for all the culture you might want.

I don't know if Nice would be warm enough at Easter - Lisbon?

OnlyLovers · 11/03/2015 15:04

Sitges! Of course! Have longed to go there for ages. Have been to Barcelona so somewhere near but different would be lovely.

Costa, I don't think I'm bothered about it being really warm; just a bit nicer than here. I've never been to the south of France so Nice is another good suggestion.

I was thinking of Lisbon as a possibility too, but to my shame I wasn't sure if it was on the coast or not. Blush

Thanks folks.

Valencia? DH and I went while I was pregnant with our first child almost 10 years ago, we got a tram to the beach and went to a big aquarium. I'm sure there is even more stuff there now. I really enjoyed it.

Lisbon is lovely. Stay along the coast at Cascais or Estoril. The train in is very quick and easy.

I love Nice but have never been this early in the season - we went to Monaco/Monte Carlo/villefranche by train, which was great as the train line runs right by the sea in places, and is very easy to navigate

Lisbon is great too, quite compact and easy to get about on trams/underground and trains to Cascais/Estoril are easy and not expensive. Sintra is close too for a day trip, lots to see and do in the area

We've stayed in the Mundial in Lisbon and in the Albatroz in Cascais, would recommend them both

Look at all these replies! Thanks everyone.

Maybe Lisbon then ... Or I was thinking of Granada because I'd love to see the Alhambra.

Parma in Majorca has everything on your list.
Agree also with nice Barcelona and Lisbon.

Valencia; fantastic city with something for everyone, and a great promenade by the beach.
