ideas for family break - please inspire me

I just finished a long project and my lovely employer offered me £1000 to spend on a family break as recognition for the long hours and effort.
I have two DC, ages 2 and 5 and little energy left after the said project to think of places to go. The Easter and May half term breaks seem to be approaching fast and I would like to book something then.
I would appreciate your ideas. I do not mind spending a bit more than I was given for the right holiday.
Main criteria: ease of getting there and getting about once there, culture, some warmth if possible, fun family activities suitable for young kids.
Uk or Europe.

Thanks!

Have you considered a cruise? Your children would be entertained and if you go to the Mediterranean it will be quite warm. There is a bit if culture if you get off the boat. I know they are a bit packaged, but they are no effort! Otherwise I would have a look at Greece. Both of these would be better options for May. Sun in April is a bit difficult unless you travel further which your budget does not really allow. I think a 2 year old limits you a bit regarding culture and presumably you don't want longer flights.

I had never considered a cruise. What a lovely idea! Flowers I will look into it.
We go to Greece most summers, so ideally we would like a different destination.

Barcelona a great city with everything I went at Christmas with my children and we loved it.

Jubilee, Barcelona is a city I've always wanted to go to. Is it doable with a 2 year old? I want to soak up the architecture etc so I would imagine there is a lot of being sat in a pram involved.

For Cruises have a look at these
www.iglucruise.com/
they have a week for around £400

I quite fancy a Norway cruise now! Problem is, the ones I have looked at are nearly £3k for a week Confused.

Barcelona great for kids and fantastic for culture and architecture, but maybe your youngest a bit young - mine is not happy to stay in his pram and i wouldn't like him running about as it would be a nightmare to keep track of him as it is a busy city with lots of (lovely) busy windy narrow old streets.
Other Spanish options - Malaga which is less busy and a much smaller scale, but still with culture and which seems to be getting trendy now. Benalmadena is an OK family resort just down the road from Malaga so could base yourself there. Palma nova in Majorca which is very very easy to get into Palma for some culture.
Nice could be an option too.

Ibiza. Not San Antonio though! You can get a week AI for close to £1000. Short flight, good beaches, sunshine, things to see. Sounds like you need a week just relaxing so a week by the pool or beach would be ideal with small kids. Many on here turn their noses up at AI but it's so much easier with a toddler!

Sorry just seen your post OP it would be a bit of walking my two are now 7 and 5 but I think doable with 2 year old. We went out in the day back for a rest for a few hours then out in evening - the Spanish don't get going until late and always lots of children about. We found little squares to stop in for a break, there is a small children's playground opposite the sagrada familia that we spent ages in, also they would love parc Guel. Casa Mila and casa baltho may be a bit harder with a buggy. There is also the beach which is lovely to visit abd watch the surfers and rollerbladers. If not this time maybe next year? We stayed in a family room in hotel vasanta which was very reasonable and great location.
