Greek Islands or Malta with a 3 year old - I can't decide!

I'm looking at going in June. Corfu looks good, mainly because of the food. I haven't really looked into Maltese cuisine yet.

I want there to be a bit more for DD to do than just the beach, nothing too much, just the odd play park or museum.

Can anyone help me reach a decision please?

hello, I love Malta, but there isn't really much for kids there. Its very laid back (apart from St Julians, which is where the young people hang out) Im not a foody, but my DP loves Maltese cuisine. Sorry not v helpful as to making a decision Blush

It depends on what kind of holiday you want - hotel, self catering, sight-seeing, culture, nightlife, beach????

I would have thought at a three year old would be happy with a pool tbh, and wouldn't care if it was Maltese or Greek.

I think there aren't any, or many, sandy beaches in Malta or have I got that completely wrong?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 03/03/2015 09:35

Ive not been to Malta but I have been to a few of the Greek islands. They seem incredibly family friendly to me (though I went pre dc), so it is somewhere we will end up taking the dc when we manage to sort a holiday.

The only downside to Greece ive found is the sea seems so much saltier than anywhere else so it may not be nice if she accidentally swallows some, but I suppose at three the "swimming" is more done in the pools and the sea is more for splashing around in.

I would choose Greece over Malta, it is probably the most family friendly place in europe, if you discount the total lack of health and safety, eg derelict playground equipment on sharp stones lol.

It's the same sea in Greece as it is in Malta!! The salt can't just all run up one end.

The sand in Greece, or anywhere on the Med, isn't great for sandcastles. It's too coarse because there is not much of a tide and the waves are too small.

Ive never been to Malta so I cant vouch for the flavour of its sea Grin all I can say is the sea was saltier in Greece than in other countries Ive swam in.

Malta is lovely and child friendly and compact / easy to travel round. But I also love Greece.

PandasRock · 03/03/2015 17:25

Malta is great, and good for little children. We found lots to do, but maybe that's because I grew up,there so already had an insight.

No real sandy beaches, though, if that's your thing.

Great food, fab with small children, nice weather.

Are the other beaches you've been to Think on the Med? Or some other sea. The med is quite salty, but one part of it can't be any more salty than another.
Anyway, you're not supposed to drink it!Smile
