Looking to go in July summer holidays for a week but the £££ is pretty dire due to various boring reasons.

Where would you recommend for a relaxing getaway for a week for 4 of us?

Eurocamp? In a mobile home not a tent

Branleuse · 02/03/2015 14:56

eurocamp all the way. Especially if you choose one with a kids club, then you get a break too

allshineon · 02/03/2015 15:04

Oh thanks, will give that a look. Would you drive, fly or train it? Flights seem extortionate at that time of year.

I know this sounds mad, but we went to Southend and stayed in a Premier Inn for 1 night, with free breakfast. The kids were talking about it, and how amazing it was, whilst we were in Sri Lanka! They are so easily pleased...

French alps sharing a chalet with friends in summer. Flights to Geneva for 150 each, 300 car hire and about the same for our share of the chalet. Really fantastic time.

France is usually a bit cheaper than other destinations for us. We fly to Bergerac and rent somewhere in the Dordogne. TBH I checked out the Eurocamp prices and they were more expensive than renting a cottage on a shared complex.

Eurocamp in a tent ( as I hate the mobile homes) for 8 nights in the Loire, inc ferry travel has just cost me £1200 for 5 in the school holidays.

As a pp suggested, book a site with a great pool and a kids club and small people will be thrilled. We bbq most nights when we're there and catering doesn't cost much on top.

I love it!

Centerparcs. not the overpriced ones i england go to europe much cheeper.

There is also a place called Dunrell in holland got a big swimming pool like ceneterparcs but also a free fun fair as well only 40 mins from ferry at hook van Holland. you can take tents caravans or book one of there holiday homes. it's alo by the seaside

So can cover all budgets close to everything you might like to visit.

we always do eurocamp in the May holiday as its less than half the price of the summer holidays.
We are doing 12 nights in the languedoc in the end of May, a week of that is half term, and then theres a non pupil day, and weve got permission for 4 days off school, and thats costing us £600 in a 3 bed caravan, with kids clubs and direct access to the med, with views of the pyrenees
If you book 12 nights or more with eurocamp they give you a discount, plus there is a discount for repeat customers.

Weve done it for just the week in May too which is not much cheaper, but I wouldnt want to drive that far for a week. We did Brittany for a week a couple f years ago (l'atlantique), and we did the Jura last year(la pergola). Both years we had some glorious days, and some rain and both were spectacular scenery. Hopefully the languedoc will be fairly reliable good weather by May though.

Ive been tempted by Duinrell. It looks fab, as does Beekse Bergen.
Also theres a really nice looking one in luxembourg, but you wont get any better weather there than you do in the UK, so it depends if thats important to you or not

Camping at the National Trust site in Wasdale at the base of Scafell Pike. Absolutely amazing. You do need to take everything as it is seriously remote - maybe 3 nights there, 3 nights somewhere else. The rocks around Wastwater are very sharp so good rockhopper shoes and an extensive first aid kit needed. But swimming in Wastwater is probably one of the things I will remember on my deathbed.

nannyafrica · 09/03/2015 22:00

What about Sweden?
You can get return flights from Stansted from around £70 each
And then rent a cabin by a lake for a week for around £250

Another vote for Duinrell. Fantastic place for a family holiday - 10 days at Whitsun last year cost £1200 inc ferry from Harwich.

We are big Eurocamp fans too. The mobile homes are always nice and modern. We got a week at Easter in Normandy last year for £360 and it was brilliant!

We are off to the Loire Valley for a week this Whitsun and it has cost £600 for the four of us including the ferry.

I love a bargain holiday!

Another vote for Duinrell. If you book one of the bungalows directly with the Duinrell site, it is usually cheaper than booking a mobile home with say Eurocamp or similar. We went outside of the normal school hols at Whit (our LA gets 2 weeks rather than 1) and I think it was less than £200 for 5 nights. Children absolutely loved it. Did Eurotunnel via Tesco clubcard vouchers, it was less than a 4 hour drive from Calais.

Wasdale great too (but can be midge-infested).

Croatia? Brac is cheap and you can get cheap flights to Split. We got a villa for £300 for a week two years ago through an owners direct type website.

We are heading off to Austrian alps in a few weeks and cabins/huts are cheap. Ours is E500 for a week and though just the two of us going sleeps 6. Flights are cheap to Munich or Innsbruck on easy jet.

Big group of us staying at holidayletchester again ! - sleeps 12 of us, so great fun to take all our kids, and guests get discounted Chester Zoo tickets - my kids love the Zoo Smile. Hope the weather is good like last time !
