Car seat rental in France

Wonder if anyone can help me.....

We're planning to travel to Avignon by train this summer then rent a car at the station.

For my 6 and 4 year old I use high back boosters at home - does anyone know if any car hire companies supply these in France?

Thanks

Why not take Bubble Bums?

What you use at home isn't a relevant criterion. You need to check French car seat law.

underachievingmum · 26/02/2015 15:06

Have checked the criteria - they need a seat - either backless or high back. I use high back boosters at home as I believe they are safer than backless so would prefer to so the same when driving abroad.

Most car hire stations will only supply a booster seat.

Since DD is 5 we only use the Trunki Boosta-seat. It is not the most comfortable one but ok for a holiday.

A friend of mine has been let down badly in this regard by a car hire place in Dijon - I think it was Avis, actually. I suspect they'll all say in the small print that they can't guarantee availability on the day. There are companies that will deliver hired baby items such as car seats, buggies and high chairs to you abroad though - might be worth doing that and picking them up at Avignon if you want to be absolutely sure?

Thank you Laquila - I will look into that! Have visions of thinking I've sorted I then turning up to find no car seats with three children in tow and GCSE French to sort it out with!

It may be cheaper to buy them when you get there.

underachievingmum · 26/02/2015 17:55

Had considered that too Pinkje - just not sure what we would do with them at the end of the trip! Leave them in the car for the rental company to sort out Wink

Pinkje - yes but how do you get to a shop who stocks them?

evelynj · 26/02/2015 20:30

I bought one at the supermarket in Spain & gave it to the taxi driver at the airport. If you can it's cheaper this way

underachievingmum · 26/02/2015 21:03

Noramum - my thought is to use one of the trunki ones or inflatable ones for the short trip to the gite (or supermarket) then use the high backs for the rest of the trip.

Anyone know if I can use amazon France to deliver in France with a uk account Smile

I think you can use Amazon UK to deliver to any address (EU anyway) as long as it is one of your delivery addresses. That's what we do for birthday presents etc.

If you are travelling by train and so not restricted with luggage weights, could you not put 2 seats in a large holdall so you have them with you at all times. We've taken two boosters that way before.

underachievingmum · 27/02/2015 07:03

Pinkje - ours are quite bulky so would need to buy new ones rather than transport them. Plus our youngest DC will be nearly 2 so will need to transport her around stations and across Paris, plus luggage for 2 weeks so not sure even if we can take car seats on train we can physically carry them!

Last years trip to wales suddenly seems very sensible - but it rained all week and I'd really like some sun this year Grin

Mmmm. Cost of buying 2 Britax adventure seats and delivering them to France is just under £90 - hiring backless boosters will be at least £50. Will wait for the hire companies to get back to me but think they may be more expensive than just buying them!

Thanks for the help!
