Dover/Folkestone etc to Calais/Boulogne-who to book with?

We want to travel to Calais in May with the car-so don't mind if we go by ferry or on the tunnel (you CAN take cars on the train, can't you!?).

Can anyone give me any info on the best way to book? There are so many websites out there!? Which route is cheaper? Quicker?

Ideally we'd like to go to Boulogne, but I can't see that route anywhere.

Any info or advice would be very much appreciated!!

In order of crossing time:

Eurotunnel - car train A20 Folkstone to Calais

P and O or My Ferry Link or DFDS - ferry Dover to Calais

DFDS - ferry Dover to Dunkerque (often cheapest)

LD lines - Newhaven to Dieppe

Brittany Ferries - Portsmouth, Poole and Plymouth to Britanny ports (longer crossing, v expensive)

No ferry service to Boulogne for years.

I would take the tunnel every time. .It can take ages to load/unload at Dover & ages to drive out of Dover on return (30 mins + to do 2 miles) .

When you get to Calais via the tunnel, you are on the right side of Calais for Boulogne & it will take you about 20 mins on the motorway to get there.

Yes Eurotunnel is by far the simplest.

Book your crossing, rock up and generally drive straight on. By the time you have got out of the car (you don't have to) and had a sandwich you hve arrived in France.

Book directly with Eurotunnel.

Eurotunnel - much better than a ferry.

go ferry everytime gives you a chance to relax a bit and have something to eat before driving again.

I agree the ferry breaks up the journey for the kids and you don't really lose much time if you have lunch on board. I usually book direct with P&O and now get emailed special offers so I wait for one of those before booking.
