Hi there,

We are on the verge of booking a holiday near Ronda, inland Andalucia. A nice modern villa in a wee complex with a pool.

Our kids will be 9, 6 and 1. I feel excited but have worries. The main one being, Will it be too hot?

Is this area good for young children etc? Any tips/advice gratefully accepted!

It could be, yes. Presume there is a/v inside? Is the pool shaded?

My SIL has been to inland spain to stay at a relatives villa in July with a small child and spent a lot of time inside. Sorry Hmm

We stayed near Granada in July/August a couple of years ago and our children were the same age as your eldest 2. It was very hot but we were fine. The villa was air conditioned and we have a lovely pool and a shaded garden.

We lived in inland Andalucia for several years and our kids (very young at the time) were never bothered by the heat (and obviously loved splashing in the pool!). We still go back regularly. One of the main reasons (apart from the lifestyle, food and all the amazing historic stuff) that people spend the summer in Andalucia is that you are absolutely guaranteed to have good weather on holiday!
In apartments and smaller villa complexes it’s good to have air-con, but larger houses and villas are usually are fine with electric fans, because the thicker walls, high ceilings and shutters (use them during the day!) keep the heat out. In our house we never put in air-con because we never felt we needed it.
The important thing, and I think it’s been mentioned before, is to throw the UK routine out of the window for a week or two and live like the Spanish do in summer. Do outings in the morning, have a long lunch in a village bar (very cheap!), relax in the afternoons and go out in the evening. We always love strolling up and down in the evening while all the local kids run around until late (incredibly late sometimes!). We can enjoy eating out as a family because our kids could never make more noise than the locals do!
