Disney place in france - can you stay in Paris or do you have to stay in some themed hotel and have Donald Duck shouting at you at breakfast time?

How far from Paris is it?

Would it be a PITA to stay there and go each day?

Given that dh and I could prob bear 2 days max, would it just be easier to stay on site.

Is there a normal hotel on site or are they all themey?

unfortunately I booked the hotel in the middle of the Pigalle and we got propositioned everytime we walked out the door . Not romantic but 'twas funny.

No - I don't agree - do not stay in Paris if you are doing Disney with a young child. I would have sat on the pavement and sobbed if someone had told me I had to walk another yard at the end of a Disney day. I suspect the DCs would have done too! By contrast watching the parade and fireworks from our balcony in the Disneyland hotel was great - g&T in hand

With a younger child you may also need regular breathing stops during the day - and an hour back in the hotel room lets everyone recharge their batteries, before the next assault begins!

I agree though that real Paris is lovely - we had great fun there!

I would stay in real Paris if that is the main bit of stay with a short visit to DPL. And vice versa.

Having done both - while real Paris was great for us all, DLP was where they would have spend every waking moment given the chance

I think Issymum has got it right though - get in training now CD

buktus · 24/10/2006 21:18

mine would have not been the least bit interested in the tower or anything elsein Paris, when we drove through paris at one point we had to lock the doors as refugees were knocking on the windows for food and money - all LO's wanted was disney

PrettyCandles · 24/10/2006 21:23

There is a direct RER train from Eurodisney to Paris (Etoile, IIRC), but it makes the day far too long for a LO. If you want to camp I can highly recommend a site called Camp des Loisirs Jablines, which is a 15-20min drive from Eurodisney, has a shop, playground and huge lake with swimming beach. Excellent showers too.

This thread has now developed surreal nuances and i am howling with laughter.

Issymum's training course, 'pimp central', and more....

VanillaMilkshake · 24/10/2006 21:58

Have'nt read all the the threads, but wanted to say.....

Stay on site. Stay at a hotel that's a little distance from the park, not the main hotel over the gates. I can vouch for the Newpot Bay - in fact it has nicer rooms that the Disneyland Hotel (our friends stayed there while we were in Newpot Bay, and were pig sick we had better room and they had scaffolding over windows.

Donald Duck does not appear there at breakfast time as you have to book a character breakfast.

Plus being on site lets you stay as long as you want till the park closes and gives you a retreat during the day if it all gets too much. Also Newport Bay has nice pool!

Blandmum · 25/10/2006 07:47

PC, I went to Jablines, this summer. the lake was closed due to an out break of salmonella! It didn't matter much to us, as we were only there for 4 nights, but for some, who were staying longer, it was a big disapointment. The site made no attampt to tell us of this prior to the vsit, and nothing was posted on ites website

In addition the toilets were filty, they stank and had blood and excreta on the seats.

I have been told that Les 4 Vents is a cleaner alternative, and has a pool

CountessDracula · 25/10/2006 16:06

CAMP?? ARE YOU MAD??

OK

The reference to Garfunkels has now put me off this completely

I think I am not emotionally or physically equipped to deal with any of this. It would also end in divorce I am certain.

I think we will stay at home and watch cbeebies instead

scarysuejonez · 25/10/2006 16:57

Camping -OOOOH YES CD PLEASE GO CAMPING! And take a camera so we can admire teh snaps of your hols.

eemie · 25/10/2006 17:08

And by the way no, you can't take a picnic. That's why they search your bags on the way in, to make sure you're not trying to smuggle in an apple or anything edible.

The best advice we had was to resign ourselves to eating absolute rubbish for two days. Being in France just makes it seem worse.

PrettyCandles · 25/10/2006 22:26

MB, when we went it was immaculate. How extraordinary!

Skribble · 27/10/2006 22:45

Hi, not read all the posts but I will add my bit .

Stayed in the Newport and Sequoia Lodge both clean comfortable and not over disney or manic. Newport was a bit more sofisticated and people say Newyork one is more grown up too. Make sure you book your breakfast slots when you check in. Breakfast is a continental buffet, ie cold meats, cheese and yogurts not sausage, fried egg and bacon. And not a hint of a character at breakie you have to pay extra for that .

There are a selection of hotels nearby that are geared up to serve disney and have shuttle buses etc.

Unless you go for a week you won't spend much time in the hotel so don't worry about pools and stuff. We were in the park from dawn to dusk.

First visit, 2 days for Disneyland and 1 day for Studios would let you do absolutly everthing. 2 days total would still give you plenty time.

Our 3rd visit the kids choose to stay in Paris and go to disney for the day. You can buy a combined RER (train) and park ticket. Takes about 50mins from the centre I think and staition is right beside the entrance to disney.

On every visit I found the parks, lake area, disney village and hotels to be pretty spotless, not many negitives really. Other nationalities that can't queue for photos is one. High season it can be very busy and longer ques but October and Easter hols have been reasonable, honest .

They do do it all so well, even the most sceptical of parents will be skipping through fantasyland to the piped music with a big grin on their face. Ok well I did .

Lilymaid · 02/11/2006 22:11

It is easy to get to Disney from Paris on the RER - we went years ago and were staying in La Defense (west side of Paris). we did Disney one day and a tour of Paris the next (DS2 was only 4 so we did spend some sightseeing time on a bateau mouche to save our legs).

calpopscalum · 18/11/2006 16:43

have to agree about the comments re the Newport bay - really happy with it as a hotel, not OTT Disney and it was good having the option of meeting the charactersin the lobby wihtout a mad scrum in the park. LOs were too scared tho so we opted out. We wrapped up some rolls and ham etc at breakfasta nd took thwem in in the buggy for lunch as the lunch menu is dire! No-one searched us and we took in our own drinks too. The food in the vilage was fine - we ate at King Ludwigs which was lovely - the steak was cooked to eprfection. Kis loved the rainforest cafe (or jungle place as they call it) and the food was fine. No worse than a child friendly restauarant anywhere else. BUT thye do cater to the kids and that makes the difference. Your dd is just theright age. We're off again in 3 weeks and dd is on a cinderella overdrive! HELP!

Its'a small world is BAD but kids love it. may put dh on with Los and run in opposite direction myself....
