Where has warm sea at Easter?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/02/2015 14:58

I'm thinking ahead for my 40th birthday next year.

I don't want a big party. I would rather like to go on a special family holiday. We ski each winter and camp most summers in the UK. We have been on holiday to Portugal but the sea there is freezing! My dc have asked several times can we go somewhere with warm sea so that's what I'd like to do!

It would be for a maximum of 10 days. Budget is yet to be discussed with DH!

If anyone has any tips of how to get a good deal (especially as we would be booking early) I'd be very grateful!

Carribbean Sea. Mexico.

If you are stuck with Easter holidays, there is probably no such thing as a good deal. See what you can do by getting a flight when they get released about 11 months in advance. Flight plus hotel deals might be better then. Or early booking discount. The weather in the Caribbean is great in April but can get a bit humid in July. However, prices are usually cheaper.

School breaks up on Thursday 24th March and goes back on 11th April.

The Caribbean was my first thought, but it's not going to be cheap!

European sea will be too cold I think.

Any thoughts on Mauritius?

Mauritius is fab and sea is warm but much longer journey than Caribbean!
8-9 hours for Caribbean, took us 17 hours to get to mauritius inc change in dubai.

AnyFucker · 18/02/2015 17:34

Caribbean is your best and closest choice for a warm sea at Easter

You could try Cape Verde etc for a 6 hour flight and the weather will be warm but the sea will be freezing

PestoSnowissimos · 18/02/2015 17:40

Another vote for the Caribbean here, just lovely Smile

juneau · 18/02/2015 17:40

Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt)
Caribbean
Indian Ocean

Yes, I think if we go anywhere to fulfil the swim in a warm sea at Easter criteria it will have to be the Caribbean.

Let's hope a windfall comes my way.......I've just bought the first lottery ticket that I've bought in over 10 years!

Belize lovely warm sea. as others have said there is no such thing as a cheap deal in school hols. check out other threads on cape verde especially if going with kids. what kind of holiday do you want? sitting by the ocean 24/7 doing nothing or all out and active? we went to Florida Keys in December and the sea was lovely to swim in.

Siennasun · 20/02/2015 14:49

I love Mauritius. Depends what your budget it though.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/02/2015 22:21

Key criteria is warm sea - like a bath as ds2 says!

For long haul I think we would go for 10 days minimum. Beach is fine, as long as there are activities available - snorkelling, sailing etc. they've never been to a warm holiday kids club (only skiing) but would probably enjoy the variety of activities.

Budget depends very much on me winning the lottery! At the moment £5,000 is the absolute maximum (and even that is pushing it according to DH!).

How old are the children and how many, that will affect price.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/02/2015 22:39

Yes, of course!

2 dc. They'll be 10 and 7.

Mexico is good value, on the Caribbean coast, warm sea, cheaper than the Caribbean islands. Give Virgin a call and price up. We took my seven year olds they were snorkelling with sea turtles etc wonderful

springlamb · 21/02/2015 07:58

The warmest sea I've ever been in is Riviera Maya in Mexico (the cove at Grand Bahia Akumal to be precise). 28 degrees in October, a bit cooler in January but bath like compared to Bournemouth! Food fab.
But for a shorter flight, the warmest sea I've been in is Makadi Bay in Egypt (Fort Arabesque). About 23 in April. The plus here is that there is a house reef that is totally accessible to all, straight off the beach. Food not so fab but it's worth it for that reef.
Both do-able for £5k, (although you'd probably have to share one room/junior suite with two double beds) and both all inclusive so all you need is excursion/souvenir tat money.
I had a freaky year once in Florida when we took a trip from Orlando down to St Pete and found 27 degree water in March.
As I get older, the sea has to be warmer.

Sidge · 21/02/2015 09:05

Cuba. Loved it.
Cheaper than the rest of the Caribbean.

Marmite27 · 21/02/2015 09:14

Riviera Maya in Mexico. We were there first two weeks in April last year on our honeymoon.

Fantastic weather, like a really hot British summer, not at all humid - my hair stayed straight after being straightened!

bonhomme · 21/02/2015 10:38

Riviera Maya is nice - the beach around Playa del Car is superb and Akumal too is a very pretty destination where you can swim with turtles. Lots of day trip options too.

Choose your hotel carefully though - we had some very rowdy Americans at ours.

I love the thought of the turtles.

I've got a day off work next week so will head to a tog od local travel agent and pick their brains I think.
