Tickets for Anne Frank House

I'm off to Amsterdam next week and have left it too late to book online for tickets for visiting Anne Frank's house. I've heard lots of times that the queues are crazy unless you go first think but it's my first time away with DH in seven years so we aren't planning early starts!

Does anyone have any insight into how to get tickets/ any other ideas?

Also top tips on Amsterdam welcomed but bought DK top ten guide. Excited! Grin

It's rather a sobering visit. Not a fun, exciting experience. Just to warn you.

My sister has been a couple of times and the queues were 5-600 long, when they got there about 10am. They did also book a tour once, but their ferry was late docking so they lost their spot and had to queue as normal.

We booked online - much less hassle!

It is a sobering visit, but very interesting. DD was about 12 (and had read the book at least twice) and DS 11 and both were very keen to go.

No tips I'm afraid but yes the queues can be very very long. If it's something you really want to do I advise getting there before it opens.
I've been several times and always booked.
Booking a city tour that includes it is another option.
Just to echo what the first poster said, it's a very sobering, unsettling experience. At least it was for me. Not a fun trip by any means.

Thanks all- will see how we get on but won't obsess over it, it's really about having a relaxing time without the sprogs.

We went in October. Got there about 45 mins before it opened and waited about 1hr 20 in total? When we came out queue must have been 2.5-3 hours long at least. Do a google though I think there is a tour company you can book with who get you to front of queue. As others have said, a very sobering experience but we both felt was well worth the wait and as we'd had an early start still had lots of the day left. (We were also on a rare Weekend without children but did do the one early start!)

You are in for a long wait unfortunately, the queues are crazy for Anne Frank's huis.

I do have a tip though- if you are a bit pekish for a bite to eat, go to the hema supermarket just down the way from dam square. There is a cafe upstairs that do lunch deals for about €2, a tea/coffe and a bacon sarnie or sausage roll or cake. So much cheaper than the other cafes that charge 3x that for a tea.
Unless you don't like a bargain , in that case just ignore me :)

We went 6 years ago. We didn't cue at all... I would cue if we went again . It was truly humbling

You can book online for the RIjksmuseum too, if you're interested in going there. It also has enormous queues.
