What's the best way to get around Barcelona? I've heard the public transport is pretty good. We will be staying a week, is there any weekly passes? Any tips welcome.

weekly metro pass is what you need. the hop on hop off tourist bus is also quite handy to get around and I think you can get a 2 day pass

Jamrollypolly · 07/02/2015 22:54

Can the metro pass be used on the underground and buses?

Watch out for pickpockets! Everybody warns you and you'll think it'll never happen to you. But they are amazingly dextrous.

You can get a daily ticket too and just pass it back to each member of the family - if they're OK to get through the barriers by themselves

We just either walked - most key places are within the compact city centre and easily walkable - or got taxis to the further out things e.g Parc Guell. Taxis were good value, particularly for two or three people sharing.

Thanks Rational I've heard. Will try and be extra careful

Hop on hop off bus is fab, you can get 2 day tickets and it has a great commentary so you learn a lot more about what you are seeing

There are 4 of us 2 adults and 2 children 14 and 8. Is daily better or weekly? Is it expensive.

Home can you buy family tickets? Do you buy them from here or when you get to Barcelona?

buy a T10 metro ticket. Gives you 10 journeys. We always buy one each on our first day there and it lasts us a the week.

rationaloptimist123 · 08/02/2015 02:19

I think you can buy a T10 for about €12 (might be a bit more now) at every station. The machines switch to English at the touch of the screen.

Just warn your DP that any gorgeous senoritas getting very close to him on a train are likely to be more interested in his wallet than his looks. Mine discovered this the hard way.

We bought the bus tickets on the bus- can't remember if there was a family deal. I just thought if was far better to be above ground when travelling about! Do go to Tibidabo (not on bus route) for a day- great little amusement park and awesome views of the city! For this trip only we did go on the metro then a trolley bus, didn't cost much if memory serves!

Hop on off tourist bus is fab but can take ages through city centre....tickets last 24 hours....

Trains are good but a basic grasp of routes and Spanish is good if you are heading around solo

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/02/2015 20:43

We used the T10 tickets. We also had hop on/off tickets for 2 days.

Book Parc Guell and Sagrada Familia in advance if you're planning to go (easy to do online) and Tibidabo is def with a visit.
