Hi

Would love to just nip over to france during half term. Dd managed to go for a day with the school for £35. So how do I go about it? Should I be looking at driving and then taking the car on a ferry, or would getting a train and then ferry easier? What about the channel tunnel? I know I'm really ignorant to all this but I've got no idea where to start or get any info from. I'm sure people on here can help. Like I said, I'm looking for easy and cheap so don't really mind where in France, jusy looking to do something a bit different.

Have you got any Clubcard vouchers?

PretendFriend · 21/10/2006 16:41

Oh, no good, you need to book way ahead with those, sorry.

PretendFriend · 21/10/2006 16:50

OK, try here - if the link works it's £10 each way for a Dover-Calais day trip with P&O. Longer breaks £27 each way.

Are you going by yourself or with chidlren?

train and ferry is a non starter, I have done it but it is v slow. Eurostar usually expensive, but worth checking for special offers, ditto Channel Tunnel for cars.

We usually use car/ferry, Norfolk line was the cheapest for a long time, they are certainly good value especially the restauant! I think there is another cheapish ferry company now, but Im not sure what they are called. Book in advance if travelling at half term.

Sorry forgot to say, Dover/Calais usually works out cheapest for us, but a fair way east for you perhaps?

Thank you for the replies

I would jsut be me and dd. Looks like it would be at least a 3 and a half hour drive plus the 5 hour or so ferry ride, so don't think it would be worth it for just one day, or even 2, so might think about it for a longer trip next summer.

how long would the drive from the midlands be if you did Dover-Calais? Thats only around 40 minutes for the fastest crossing, or 2 hours (Dunquerque) with norfolk line

schnapps · 23/10/2006 10:41

Oh, I must have read the timetable wrong. A 3 and a half hour drive to dover plus 40 minutes in the ferry would be ok

Where can I find details of the ferry from norfolk? That might be easier.

Sadly Norfolk Line doesn't fun from Norfolk, schnapps - it's Dover-Dunkirk - very cheap though, £19 day trip!

PretendFriend · 23/10/2006 10:51

Oh dear, I read that wrong - it's £18 for a daytrip after 1st Nov - £19 each way until then, so the P&O one is better (also the Dunkirk crossing is 1hr 45 mins)
