Duinrell - Best location & Spending Money

LondonSuperTrooper · 02/02/2015 14:53

We have finally decided on a location for our summer holiday and we are hoping to go to Duinrell in August. I have tried to read the online reviews and ended up getting confused regarding caravan locations.

I have a DS who will be 8, and a baby who will be around 4 months when we go on holiday. Duinrell looks like a large site and I am trying to book a caravan as close as the theme park/ tikipool as possible. Please can you recommend a location on site? I have failed to find a legible map of the park. And is there a best operator to book the caravans from? I carried out a quick check and Selectcamp comes out the cheapest whilst Eurocamp is the most expensive. But as this is our first type of Eurocamp holiday, I have no idea who has the best reputation.

Also, some people have recommended a duingalow instead of a caravan - is it worth paying extra for a duingalow?

And if you have made it this far, I only have one final questions please. We are on a tight budget and I'd like to find out how spending money we will need for a 7 night stay - any ideas?

Thank you :)

If you are in tight budget there is a supermarket in the town about 10 minutes walk from the site.It is a lot cheaper than the shop on site.

Thanks bruffin. From what I've read there is one called C100 and also Lidl? I think that we won't be eating out very much - it seems to be very expensive!

We've booked a duingalow direct through Duinrell. When in August are you going? As if the very end of August can get an off peak package with them, 535 euros for the week. We opted to do this as after reading reviews it sounds like the duingalows have the most privacy.

Never been before so not sure on location - we chose which duingalow we wanted, as far away from the main plaza as we could in the hope it won't be too noisy! I think the different operators have different sections in the park.

We stayed in Duingalow between the Plaza and the amusement park. Thought it might be noisy but was fine - it was October half term though so possibly not as good when evenings lighter/warmer. Its a great place for a family holiday. The C1000 in town is a good supermarket although I do find Europe more expensive than UK so we take most of our basics with us as well as some batch cooked meals - freeze everything and remember no oven in Duingalows. Buy wine and beer at the Auchan supermarket at Grande Synth just outside Dunkirk.

Hi I've bento duinrell a few times, most of the caravans from the big uk operators are either in middelwald between the plaza and the park which is convenient but noisy or on the eiland which is a bit quieter with more trees etc - probably a bit calmer in August. If you looking the duinrell website there's a good map there - all the greyed out areas are taken by the holiday operators

We went last May and booked a Eurocamp Espace caravan on the Eiland mwhich was described as quiet and further away from the action.

In reality we were within a few mins walk of the Tikkibad and theme park and play area ( which stays open even when the theme park is shut). We were a long walk to the site shop but to be honest Wassenaar is such a lovely town and so close that we got our groceries from the supermarket there. ( the Ice Cream Parlour in a Wassenaar is a must do and only €1 a scoop!)

The location is nice and shady because of all the trees and we had ducks coming onto the deck every day which the kids loved,

We loved the location but there was a negative in that there was a touring area on the Eiland too. For the first few nights all was quiet as the touring area was almost empty, but then it filled up for the May bank holiday weekend and the noise levels went through the roof. ( loud chatter and laughing rather than loud music and until about 1am)

Our kids slept through it and it didn't bother me enough to complain but if I went again I'd pack earplugs!

As soon as the campers left it was peaceful again. In August there will be more tourers in the campsites so it could be a problem.

Sorry if I've just added to your confusion!

We've been to duinrell twice & both times booked a duingalow direct with them. It was cheaper than eurocamp etc & you had free swimming every morning. We were near the plaza both times but it wasn't noisy at all. Further away looked very nice, a more scenic environment.

Duinrell is fab, I'm sure you'll have a great time where ever you stay.

Like a pp said, go on the duinrell website & look at the map. If you book with them, you can choose your duingalow. The grey areas are eurocamp, canvas etc & I think all the areas have all operators. I'm not sure if it's possible to choose tho.

How do people get there? Ferry to France? How long is journey at other end?

bruffin · 07/02/2015 16:27

when we went it was Harwich /Hook of Hollan but the had the fast ferry then, but we have been to a lot of centerparcs in Holland and have gone Dover/Calais or Dunquirke and driven. Its not that bad a drive.

bruffin · 07/02/2015 16:29

To duinrell i think its 3.5 hour drive. We went to a belgian cp for 5 days and then a week at Duinrell

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/02/2015 17:03

We took the Ferry from Harwich at around 9am and arrived in Duinrell at around 5ish from memory. Sounds a long day of travelling but was actually extremely relaxing.

The ferry has a cinema on board so the kids watched two films and I spent a lot of time chilling out in the cabin with my book. We booked a day cabin and I took a cool bag full of drinks , snacks and sandwiches to keep us going on the crossing. It was a lovely relaxing start to our holiday.

The drive to Duinrell was about 45 mins once we got off of the ferry.

Heels99 · 07/02/2015 17:14

angels which Port did you arrive at?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/02/2015 17:16

Hook of Holland Smile

Ruthiebabes · 07/02/2015 19:58

We are booked at Duinrell for 4 nights in Oct half term.. 1st time. We have booked Eurotunnel.. Then it's 3.5 hr drive. Hope to arrive at site by 3. I was unsure about where to book on site. I ended up booking with Eurocamp in a mobile 'close to action'!! I hope it's not too noisy. I am hoping as it's near the end of season it will not be too busy!Smile
