Anyone know French train routes?

Just curious really. We are staying in Northern France, in Fruges next week. It is near places like Le Touquet on the coast. Just curious as to what the train routes are like to other cities in Northern France, and possibly even Disney?

It's a 2.5 hour trip to Disney by car, which it a bit far for a day trip really (sadly ) Wondered if it was quicker by train.

And also other places round and about.

Don't know if this website - man in seat 61 is any use to you? It's supposed to be very good.

I used to work for Eurostar, and was quite clued up on continental rail travel, but it was 10 years ago, so forgotten most of what I used to know...

Hmm, having a dig, but being horrified by the French adverts for "love in London" ... complete with a fried egg being fertilised by baked beans with tails ...

Do you know where the nearest train station to Fruges is?

hulababy · 20/10/2006 10:36

Thanks will have a look.

No idea what most local station is to Fruges, so need to start with that!

Hula, check out the TER section of the SNCF website. TER is the regional network (ie, not TGV and Eurostar) and is divided up by area. So there is a bit just for the Nord/PDC.
French trains are great...but I suspect the journey will be no quicker. Most direct route would be fast train to Paris from Boulogne or Le Touquet then change there, I'd have thought. but check the website.
Dd will relish the double-decker trains on a lot of the routes locally even if you just trundle into Amiens for the day.

Will defintely look on SNCF site later on then (have ot go out in sec). We will have the car with us, but I reckon DD will enjoy a trip on a train. I remember the double decker ones

Hesdin looks good, is not that far south of you. Well, 15 clicks south.

At the other end, you want Marne La Vallee Chessy, that's the station for Disney, it says.

And the only route I've found between the two is two one-hour train journeys with two and a half hours waiting in the middle. You might manage to find something better, though.

Hesdin is a useful station, with a wood just north of it, which might be worth exploring. You can get a train from there to the coast, which takes about half an hour, which would probably be a nice treat?

Definitely - will have a look, thanks

Think Disney is going to have to be a no this time!

Parc Asterix is north of Paris, worth a look but suspect limited opeing in autumn. Went there with ds(4) in Sep and it was a great hit.

Parc Asterix is closed.
