Huddl tablet jammed on bus

Hi everyone. I would really appreciate some advice.

We were coming back from holiday recently and were travelling in the very front row of a two tier bus. There was a small shelf at the front at the windscreen and my daughter balanced her new Huddle tablet on this shelf. Unfortunately it got knocked by a friend and fell into a gap infront of the shelf where the hot air from the heater comes out to clear the window. The gap was between the windscreen and the shelf and was about an inch wide.

Although we tried everything we couldnt get her Huddle out and were told by the company that they'd do it at the garage and return it. We left it at that because we were having a pretty difficult journey as it was. There were many tears it has to be said. This was about a month ago.

The company is now saying they cant return it as it requires putting the bus out of action for too long to take it apart. They're suggesting we claim on our insurance.

I'm a bit annoyed with this because a) it feels there was a design fault in the bus. There was allsorts of stuff in the gap it fell down so it is their fault. b) we would have kicked up more of a fuss at the time if they'd said they couldnt get it out and c) it feels it should be on their insurance anyway if a claim has to be made.

I'm need to write back to the company shortly so would v much appreciate any advice and examples where anyone else might have had a similar problem.

Thanks!!

I think you need to take responsibility for your possessions if your daughter(who old) is not able to do that.

What exactly are you going to claim about, it's you/your daughters fault Confused

If you have cover for possessions away from the home you may be able to claim. I suspect your excess might outweigh the cost of replacing it though. I think you need to suck it up, unfortunately. Valuable life lesson for your dd. Hmm

it was an accident. I expect the gap is there for venting/cooling, rather than a design flaw, and it was your daughter's fault I'm afraid. Nothing the bus company has done is negligent. You can only try claiming on your insurance I'm afraid.
