Where to stay near Perpigan

Hi all, I've just booked flights to Perpignan for the first week in September as they were a bargain and I've always loved the Languedoc, went there a lot as a child, mainly Pezenas/Valras Plage/Cap D'Agde/ Clermont l'Herault areas.

I'm looking for a decent kid friendly sandy beach within 15mins and a nice town we can walk into for dinner and drinks in the evening with our kids 5/7. I've heard Collioure is lovely but busy in August and has stony beach and that Argeles sur Mer is nice but busy so I'm a bit confused about where to stay- is Carnet Plage nice?

Thanks for any tips.

we have been to Ceret lots of times, nice town inland about half an hour.
IMO Canet is the least nice, Argeles is ok, its cheap and sandy by Med standards, so lots of campsite and students, collioure i think is less sandy and smarter, try Le Racou which is part of Argeles but south of the main town, with its own strip of bars, chalets, beach huts.. might be something to rent around there. or sleep in land a bit, cant remember the name of the next town, Elne maybe, and go to Racou in the day time.

argeles sur mer is lovely but very touristy. However, when our kids were the age of yours they loved it as there was so much to do on the beach, plus a night time market which they loved going out to on a night.

collioure is my favourite, but parking is a nightmare, and prices in my experience for restaurants etc were quite high. It's more upmarket for sure, and maybe not as child friendly as argeles.

I personally like Canet and St Cyrien, as they had lots to do on the beach for younger children, and we found we could find a safe spot for the kids to go in the sea.

Thank you both, will have a good browse, I wondered about trying to stay somewhere in Collioure and then travel out to beaches but suspect that might be too expensive. Will check the usual owners direct/chez nous websites.

There are about three beaches in Collioure one of which is sandy, the other two are pebble. If you follow the road up towards Port Vendres there is a really nice quiet beach next to the Roche Bleu and Les Batteries appartments.
