Hi, has anyone experience of Hong Kong airport? My parents are flying out to Oz and have a stop over for an hour and a half, they don't travel often and are concerned about finding where to go for next leg etc.. Is it fairly straight forward and easy to navigate? Thanks

It is huge, but everyone speaks English and the signage is good. I have never ever found difficulty knowing where to go BUT the distances can be long.

And I can get lost putting the rubbish out....

it's huge. Loads of signs. but all in both chinese and english.

if they only have a stop of an hour and a half they will more than likely be escorted off plane through security and back on plane. there's not much time for anything else.

it is huge but with that little connection time, they will probably be ushered off with a poster saying 'connecting flights xxx' and follow instructions. signs everywhere in English, and airport personnel do speak English. Good luck! There's a Disney store if they wish to stop in there, plus lots of posh shops, as well as food areas.

Can I hijack for a related question? We will have a 5 hour stopover in HKG on the way home from holiday. Is there a lot of stuff to entertain small DC e.g. play areas?

Elysianfields · 28/01/2015 14:19

I have never done HK airport with small dc's so I have no idea but this might help www.hongkongairport.com/eng/shopping/entertainment/t2/entertainment.html

Thanks, that Dream Come True thing looks amazing!

it is huge and has 2 terminals. If you have 5 hours, I would catch the bus and go to see the big Buddha. The bus takes about 20 minutes, plus 30 on the cable car. It is worth it. I had a 5 hour stopover recently and spent 3 of them going just this

Thanks Dragon, we are actually spending 2.5 days in HK on the way out so hopefully will have done all our sightseeing then. I just realised our flights are from T1 so does that mean we have to go through immigration to get to T2? Confused

Once you land in hong kong you follow the signs to the transit/ conmecting flight area where they check you have a boarding card for next flight. You then go through security again where hand luggage is screened including liquids. Then you can access the terminal. Terminal one has about 80 gates and a huge variety of shops and there are a couple of play areas for young children. The airport also has free wifi. Terminal two is pretty small and is accessed by bus from under terminlal one. Flights from terminal 2 are mainly to mainland china and there is a starbucks there and a few shops, but no play area for kids.
