Avoid temple bar area, do not stay there.
Any hotels round st stevens green area are good and central.
Try late rooms.com for cheap hotels

lipsbite · 19/10/2006 22:44

take LOADS of money with yer to Dublin as its so expensive! but would go again as its so lovely

jampots · 19/10/2006 22:48

oh dublin is loverly. If you happen to get to the guiness brewery tour any chance you could get me a guiness pen (think it was 1.99 or similar (not a fountain type pen but the typical handwriting pen). They write really nice but we've lost ours and dont want to have to go to dublin and guiness again specially. Ta obviously i will pay you for it.

go to bewleys on grafton street too. havemt a clue where to stay but will be looking forward to any recommendations. i want to go over before easter

makemineadouble · 20/10/2006 07:26

Thanks miff will check out site
Lipsbite will take dh's plastic lol
Jampots if I get anywhere near guiness and am sober enough I will get you pen

what bout restaurants? Music bars? keep hearing about Grafton street is that a must see?

jampots bewleys aint the bewleys it use to be anymore, its cant think of name right now.

much nicer for coffee is avoca cafe on suffolk stuff at the top of the building. plus a lovely shop for browsing in.

stepehens green has a playpark make mine should you need for somewhere for the kids ot burn off . whilst you window shop.

the guiness tower is a great idea but expensive - i am sure theres a link.

national gallery - very nice for strolling arounds and kids would enjoy natural history museum all of these are very central and no more than ten mins walk from grafton st.

temple bar has some nice cafes, but its hectic at night. the gallery of photography is in it too as is the ark - a kids place - also on the web.

hermykne · 20/10/2006 07:40

makemine
grafton st aint a must see its just a shopping st with most of the uk shops on it, plus brown thomas the department stroe.

arnotts on henry st over the river from temple bar - has loads of shopping too.
and henry st has zara etc but sure all that is in uk.

the luas (tram) is a fun thing to do for getting a look around the city.
as are the tour buses - i think one of them does it in an ark type thing - they are fun.

how much do you want to spend in restaurants?

jampots · 20/10/2006 10:24

I thought we were in bewleys in June - did i mistake the name? Twas lovely in any event - very nice ambiance although flipping expensive.

At Guiness we paid by credit card and opted to pay in sterling - it did make quite a difference to the admission price and purchases (in our favour)

We didnt get into Avoca shop as we had to catch the tour bus thing back to the Guiness brewery before they closed the car park but we did get to Avoca in Wicklow (where we were staying) and the food/drink was heaven

louii · 20/10/2006 10:26

Oh just remembered, there is a tour bus thing Viking splash tours, where u all wear a viking helmet and it goes into the river, its a kind of boat thing. Always though it looked great fun when i saw it going past. Kids might like it.
Grafton street is nothing exciting really, just your usual shops, a few nice restaurants and bars in the streets going off grafton street though.
Oh and by the way, u can get guiness pens in O'carrolls gift shops (they are everywhere, usually full of American tourists)

hermykne · 20/10/2006 19:37

every recommendation in dublin on this site you wont know where to chose!!

but i'm heading to Town november 10th!!

hermykne · 20/10/2006 19:40

jampots - it "cafe bar deli" at bewleys (they have a few outlets), same building but run by new people. thats why it dear.
bewleys was going to shut down completely and they took over to avoid the loss of such a landmark to possible a UK multiple (as grafton st is practicular all Uk originated shops)

jampots · 20/10/2006 20:04

MMAD - Wicklow is so lovely. We stayed at Clogga Cove by Arklow.

My family is from Kildare and Cavan

Hi all, Sorry to take so long to report but since We got back I'v been so ill! (missing Eire I think) I barely managed to work this last week but thats all I'v done. Today first day I'v even checked mn so you can tell how bad I'v beeen

Trip was fantastic!!! driving from Dublin to Galway was an absolute pleasure so pretty and so clean, we stayed longer with my family than we planned so just ended up having full day in Dublin before ferry at 9.30pm however we really enjoyed it and we are already planning to go back for proper weekend.

Arlington hotel and Clifton Court Hotel on main street(o'connell I think) is so resonable and central. The food in the Clifton is gorgeous (Bar food but freash and filling) they have music there every night from 9 free! Tours brill, shops brill people fabulous can't wait to return
