I am going to Dubai next August for a week to the Mina a Salam hotel. Is it really too hot in August and do they have Mozzies there?

Way, way too hot to go out (40o plus). Dh's aunt lives there and comes back to UK for July and August. We visited one October years ago and it was over 30o at night even then.

DON'T PLEASE DON'T!!!! Lived in Dubai for a while, and nobody could even go outside during August. It would just be like holidaying in an oven. The only time of year the temp dipped below 30 was for about 4 weeks Jan/Feb, then evenings got quite chilly. Would really, really discourage anyone from going there between end of April and end of September. Really very unpleasant. That is why all the Dubai Nationals who don't work can be found in London during the Summer. If you don't have to be there, you shouldn't. There are lots of flies in Dubai, but not really Mozzies. The hotels in Dubai are all of a very high standard, but please be aware that most of the new hotels are actually quite a long way from Dubai itself (kind of out in the sticks) and driving anywhere is a life-threatening experience. Taxis are very cheap, but still very hair-raising! There is an awful lot to do out there now, but I can't help feeling it's all grown a bit too quickly and is very consumer-driven (some would say spoilt). Shame, really.

Thanks for that but August is the only time we can go and its somewhere we have been wanting to go for ages now, so will have to brave it out.

No mozzies that I can recall though. On the upside

We've been to Dubai about six times now -In October, Jan/ May and August. the August trip wasn't exactly by choice as I had to have those two weeks off due to work, however I loved it. January was too cold when went IMO and I would not go again in Jan - we had intermitent rain and sunshine still managed maybe fours hours in a bikini on the good days, but it was pretty chilly otherwise (for Dubai). I would go back in August but I like it Hot hot hot! TBH you can be in the pool all day - swim up bars - yum and in the evening you tend to be indoors in hotel resturants or bars - all air con. Shopping Malls are all air con and if you trip into town for shopping go in the evening when it's cooler - it'll still be damn muggy. I doubt very much whether you'll regret it. Are you bringing little ones? How old?

babydales · 18/10/2006 16:51

No no little ones maybe a couple of friends but they have not booked yet. It looks stunning. Thought we would get a week away in before our daughter gets married. Really looking forward to it.

Definaitely go then -like I say, I loved it but you will be saying - damn it's hot, but you have all the tools to cool down - pool, cocktails, air con in doors, and most hotels have these great cooling misting machines outdoors too. It would be different if you actually had to live there and didn't go around in your swimmers all day. A week will be long enough too - two weeks might be a bit exhausting! By the way DH who isn't a sun worshipper by any means - (I'm not either though) didn't melt and if his white/irish body coped - I'm sure you will. Enjoy it - you'll never want to go anywhere else again!
