Travel insurance recommendations?

Trying to sort out travel insurance & I'm confused!!

Decided we need annual cover & must include at least 3 of the kids. Spent hours on the net this morning & still not sorted it out. So far Sainsburys looks like best deal. Not the cheapest but the benefits are double some of the others.

Can anyone recommend a particular company, or can explain what level of cover is really necessary? We're going to the States, so I'm tending to err on the side of caution, esp with the medical side. (No wintersports).

Or anyone had any horror stories trying to make a claim from a particular insurer?

we use jardine lloyd thompson via the guardian. it was the best quote i could find, & practically the only one that didn't double the premium when i told them i had diabetes (probably not relevant to you, but a good indication of sensible pricing). my parents also use them.

We're with esure, but I couldn't tell you much about them I'm afraid...

We use www.insureandgo.com. Had no problem getting an american health claim covered pretty effortlessly.
It is also the cheapest that we could find and kids are free.

We chose Marks & Spencer's family annual ploicy last year, as it seemed the best deal. If you pay via their store card you get 5% discount. But policies do seem to vary, year by year - I'll be on the hunt again in July!

Thanks all. I'll look into these.
