Haven't been to York, but a couple of others and think they're pretty standard. We've taken ours as toddlers and it was fine. Kids menu in the restaurent.

We've stayed there - can't remember much that was too different to any other hotel, except that it had a swimming pool which ds loved (and a car park included which is a big advantage in York whre parking is really expensive).

You can walk from the Novotel into the city along the riverbank (hang on to your little ones if they're liable to run off!) - which is nice for them as there are boats, etc, and a sluice thing to control floods quite near the hotel which ds was fascinated by. One thing we did find was that the Novotel breakfasts were expensive, so we used to walk down towards the city and get the much cheaper (£1.99 I think) breakfasts at Wetherspoons.

York's one of our favourite places to take ds - he loves going round the walls, and the railway museum has a great hands-on bit for kids round the back where they can build bridges, operate a signal box, etc. Jorvik's good too if you're there when it's quiet.

Yes I have. Did a hotel tour for work. Looked nice, very family friendly, good pool food was nice.
Handy for the City walking distance by the river, great as parking here is extortionate.

Don't recall the pool as especially deep. We had ds with us before he could swim (he'd have been about 3) and didn't have any problems taking him in with his armbands - s 'm sure it was shallow enugh for us to stand on the bottom.

sounds about right then!!my hubby wants to avoid a family surprise party!!so we are running to york.if i can stand on the pool floor im ok.thanks.
