I have been and gone and booked a week in Mexico.
Have only NOW decided to look at the weather for 3rd week in October - it is the hurricane season.
Buggerit!

And I will have to be careful what I eat as I am 8 weeks PG.
Why didn't I settle for Bridlington?

LOL. You'll be fine

Been to Florida in hurricane season. Just because it is hurricane season doesn't mean there WILL be one. More likely than not there won't be. Will probably mean there is rain for a while each day - most likely for about an hour each afternoon - go for afternoon tea or a nap then; you'll "see" it coming.

Yes, you need to watch what you eat a bit, but not too much. I went to the carribean at 9 weeks - only place I didn't have sickness was on the flights there and back; were a huge relief to be in the air for once in my life.

Have fun

thanks Hula.
I just remembered Hurricane Wilma hit Mexico in December last year and caused a great deal of damage.
Anyone ever been to Cancun?

I haven't but my brother and my sister have - seperately. What do you want to know? Can ask them for you.

Overtiredmum · 11/10/2006 20:46

Hi Gingerbear - I have been to Cancun and it was just at the end of hurricane season. Admittedly, it was nearly ten years ago but if I can help with anything, please let me know. If it helps you can email me on [email protected], although I only have access between 5pm to 11pm (only work evenings) - I would be more than happy to help if I can.

How expensive is eating out? What should our daily budget be?
Should we take US dollars and US$ travellers cheques? Can you order Pesos from Thomas Cook, is it worth getting some before we travel?
How much to tip in cafes etc?
Thanks for the offer OTM, I will email you.

Have e-mailed questions to my sister; she should get it tomorrow at work.

My sister got back to me

"Can't help very much with eating out at all because we went all inclusive. Ee always ate in the hotel. The only time we bought food/drink was the odd bottle of pop from a supermarket for the walk which was just the same price as here. We only went out to the clubs once and that was an all-in trip with Direct Holidays for about £20.

We had one meal out at the Bubba Gump Shrimp House which we would definately recommend as the food was fab as was the service, plus was really fun with it all being themed. A bit pricy though - we paid about £35 each for two courses and drinks - but we did have steak and lobster for our main meal and the portions were absolutely massive. Worth it as a one off treat.

I wouldn't bother about taking pesos with you. All the shops we went to and, so far as I know all the bars and restaurants, take dollars.

The only time you need peso's is for the bus - really reliable btw, runs every few mins and works out about 20p to go anywhere on the strip - but you can get those easy as most places if you buy something in dollars you get small change (prob anything less than a $10 bill) in peso's. To be honest by the end of the holiday we had to find junk at the airport to buy to get rid of them.

We spent less than £100 each for the week and that included presents. The only other money we spent was on the trips we booked which we did on our cards.

I would recommend the jungle cruise tour where you have your own speedboat on the lagoon - think it was about £20 each or maybe even less.

The dolphin thing was about £70 but we did the extra one where you went in with manatees, etc could do it cheaper. Was good but very commercial in that it was very much about them being able to get you to just keep posing for photos for you to then buy but was a good experience all the same."

HTH
