It's for my poor dear sister. She hasn't had a night away from her kids in years.
I told her there is nothing MN can't do.

Well, Southwold is fairly sophisticated as Suffolk goes, and relaxed too. What time of year would it be?

moondog · 08/10/2006 22:11

Diolch Spacey.
It would be in two weeks.
We know that Southwold is nice-just wondered if anyone had personal recommendations.

Well, I live in Suffolk and think Southwold is nice. Aldeburgh is also OK, but not as friendly as Southwold, it can be a little bit snooty. If it's in half term week, it could be a bit overrun with families, but I guess that will be the case in most places. There are some other nice places to visit in Suffolk too. Woodbridge is good (not on the coast, but by the river.)

moondog · 08/10/2006 22:25

So could you recommend anywhere particularly then in Southwold Bats???

Do you mean somewhere to stay, as in hotels, etc?If so, then not really. As I live in Suffolk, we've never really stayed away that close to home IYSWIM. And we don't go out for meals etc so much since having ds. Sorry to be not much help. The pier is good to visit, though.

I want her to have a nice time.

Also, Adnams brewery is in Southwold, so if they like good beer, it will be a bonus. I hope they have a lovely time.

Or the Crown and Castle in Orford - lovely hotel, gorgeous food, mad national trust/RSPB reserve just across the harbour. And it's run by Ruth Watson the hotel inspector...

moondog · 09/10/2006 08:52

Thanks Cats.We had earmarked that one as it did indeed look lovely.
Any more???

The White Hart at Nayland here is lovely - dh and I had an anniversary weekend there a couple of years ago. It's a restaurant with rooms - fab food and the rooms were small but very nicely done. It's not right on the coast but we went to Aldeburgh from there on the Saturday, it's not far. (Would love to go back if the babysitting offers hadn't dried up now we have 2...)

Swan hotel in Southwold is lovely to eat in and friends who've been to stay like it

Aldeburgh - \link[http://www.brudenellhotel.co.uk/\Brudenell Hotel] or \link[http://www.wentworth-aldeburgh.com/index.htm\Wentworth Hotel] although I think Orford may have a younger clientele.
