Mamas and Papas are they any good?

We need to get a new pushchair as our graco one has given up the ghost. I want it to be more substantial than a stroller. Argos has got the Mamas and Papas aria, and o-zon on offer at the moment. Are they any good? Or can anybody reccommend a good but fairly inexpensive stroller. My son is 16 months and I'd quite like it to do another baby.

Mama's and Papa's generally get slated by most people for poor quality, poor after sales and generally over priced.
Mothercare have a great range of own brand and you'll get much further with them if something goes wrong.

i am an m&p-a-holic, have 4 and have never had a problem personally.

I read something awful about M&P last week, I think there was something on MN and something on Ebay (the advice on buying things) From what I've heard, I wouldn't bother with them!

We had a Maclaren, and still have got it, it's the Techno XT. We brought it in 2004 and it's still going strong, this includes flights over to Florida, being rammed about on planes as they are. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, and as its the Techno XT one it lays flat, so it could be used for a infant if needed. It could look quite expensive, but if you were going to spend out on a M&P one, I think you'd find the Maclaren quite fairly priced. HTH! x

we had a M&P pushchair, which was great. I don't drive, and walk a lot, so it must have done a lot of miles. Don't know about after sales service, as wenever needed it. But I would say they are quite expensive.

Don't get an Aria! Maybe we had a duff one but it would never clip into place and once dd got to about 18 months steering was really hard. We had a big comfy pushchair from there (travel system thing) which although was lovely was huge and wouldn't fit in my car. The car seat carrier was really heavy even with a newborn. So no not a great fan although they do look lovely!

Thanks for all your advice. Slightly concerned about M&P aftercare now. What is so terrible about it? Will look at Mothercare's option now, the only thing that put me off about them is that my local store (which is a Mothercare superstore) never has what I want in stock!

Always been v happy with my M&P pushchair. After 2.5 yrs with DD1 I paid £15 to send it back to M&P factory who gave it a full overhaul, tightened all screws etc. and resewed the footrest cover where the stiching had gone slightly. Came back good as new and done another 2.5 yrs with DS.

God, am showing my age here......saw the op......"Mamas and Papas are they any good?" and ran to get my cd so I could list all the good tracks

"California Dreamin'" is good, in fact I love all of my "The Best of The Mamas and The Papas"

m&p aria is particularly bad model. M&p generally overpriced - just market positioning; supposed to be 'luxury' baby products. some stuff is fine, but prob not worth the pricetag.

second the maclaren vote. boring but true, they generally last ages and are just easy all round.

nappyaddict · 22/10/2006 00:48

the maclaren xt, does it lie flat?
