So, we are tied to school hols and a relatively short flight.

Sick of baking to feck in Spain/Greece in July but find them too cool for my love of sun and sea swimming in May.

I hear good things of Marrakech but never been anywhere like it.

Any experiences, tips, best places to stay, confirmation the weather will be fab at May half term ? Or even Easter.

Cheers

We were there in october for a long weekend. I agree with the other posters - it's all a bit mad, but fantastic for all that!

We stayed in Riad Alma in the south end of the Kasbah. We enjoyed it but it is a reasonable (but entertaining) walk to the main square (~15 mins), so that may not suit you. I understand that many riads have only a plunge pool and Riad Alma is no different, but it was fine for us.

We stumbled over Cafe Arabe while getting lost one morning and decided it was so nice that when we got lost near there again we decided to go there for dinner. Lovely meal and great ambience and service.

We were staying near Cafe Clock but only found it after it had shut for the recent Eid al Fitr holiday so we missed out but it was definitely on our list to try out.

We also tried Cafe de France overlooking the main square but to be honest the location was the high point so i cant really recommend it for more than a drink.

Have a fab trip!

PS When you are passing through the airport to come home and wonder why there are loads of people queueing to your right for security and not in the line with you - its because you are in the mens line, so you need to move over and queue up!

We are going on Friday for a long weekend , staying at a Riad in the Medina , can't decide if I am excited or daunted !

ZaraW · 04/11/2014 14:24

outtolunch enjoy it and don't be intimidated. Be firm and don't engage in conversation with people on the streets trying to sell you something or offering to be your guide. Ignore them and move on. One of the highlights of our trip was getting into the Atlas mountains the people were genuine and hospitable without wanting anything in return.

Could I crash the thread and ask what Marrakech would be like in Devember? Would it still be warm?

sailorsgal · 04/11/2014 18:40

I would be very happy to go back on Friday! Grin I found the people very friendly on the whole.

Just got back , it was amazing and I loved it.Didn't feel unsafe or excessively hassled at all , admittedly I am nearly 50 and not very exciting to look at , but we found a simple no thank you , or not today and a smile and they went away .I have felt more hassled in several other places .
