AIBU being scared of ebola for christmas?

We are meant to take the eurostar at christmas to go to france... i just feel like cancelling the whole thing or at least driving there. There are so many people on the eurostar breathing the same air, coming from many parts of europe...
I was watching sky news at the gym earlier and they said the way they screen people at airport is to check their temperature... presumably, if you are feeling poorly you will take paracetamol and the temperature will drop and you will have passed the screening.
am i being unreasonable? i would never forgive myself if my husband or children catch it...

The advice I've seen was that by and large the people you could give ebola to (if you had it) are pretty much the same people who'd see you naked -- so doctors, nurses, very close family members (and, I guess, undertakers/morgue attendants). So long as you're not normally on those terms with your fellow train passengers there's no need to worry. And if you are then you maybe need to work on your social boundaries...

The story that really got me fucking terrified was terrorists purposefully infecting themselves and then potentially infecting others. I decided not to read the article as it was in the DM and knew it would be written in such a way to cause hysteria.

But if they were going to do that there are a dozen or more diseases that would be far more effective (I appreciate that that isn't, on balance, reassuring. But terrorist-driven Ebola should really be some way down on the panic list).

NewEraNewMindset · 14/10/2014 14:44

Tortoise I assume those other diseases might not be so easily accessed outside of a laboratory?

Oh I don't know. Before I had my son I really didn't care about what these bastards wanted to do as I didn't particularly care about my life and felt suicidal half the time anyway. But now I have my baby I just want to keep him safe and this sort of thing now chills me to the bone.

I agree NewEra (bad) world things happening are far worse once you've have children.

Surely it wouldn't be a very effective terrorist weapon. The carrier is likely to die before being able to get the disease onto anyone effectively. Isn't s/he?

The threat of using Ebola as a terrorist weapon has been around for a long time. It was the plot of one of the Jack Ryan novels a good few years ago.

At the risk of bumping up another ebola thread and sounding like an arse - did you know mn have given us a whole ebola topic, where many of these issues have already been discussed? here :)
