Hi, myself, dp and 19mo ds are in New York for a week over thanksgiving.

I'm just looking for some suggestions on what to do and see.

We want to see all of the obvious sights. Statue of Liberty, Empire State, top of the rock etc. I've found a couple of children's museums too.

What are 'unmissable sighs' and what would there be for ds?

Also need to find somewhere to book for thanksgiving dinner is anyone had any suggestions of child friendly, down to earth traditional restaurants!

Central park - the zoo and particularly the childrens zoo are great. The statten island ferry was a hit with DS1 (aged 20 months when we went there first) too - as was Toys r us with the big indoor ferris wheel enar Time Square.

Thank you for the replies. We had thought about the ferry and I'd forgotten about the zoo.

We have a backpack. Debating whether of not to take the buggy as I guess it will be crowded a fair bit if the time, and like you say, difficult to get on and off of buses.

We took the buggy and used the tube or taxis everywhere OP as they were plentiful and cheap (though we were staying centrally). Meant DS1 could sleep in the buggy while we did MOMA and wandered around the Met (things he wouldn't have been that interested in). And the buggy snuggle and rain cover kept him snuggly when it was cold/windy.

We didn't do high end eating when over there but check out time out new York which will have listings for all kinds of places including child friendly venues.

Where are you staying? There's an italian chain called Serafina which does reasonable food and is child friendly (think Pizza Express). Not sure what their thanksgiving menu would be like. I would also recommend the Tick Tock Cafe which a proper American Diner.

I would recommend the High Line if it's not too cold. It's a renovated section of elevated Subway line which you walk along. There's park areas, musicans, artists, etc - just a nice vibe and my boys (4 & 2 at the time) loved it.

I did take a buggy and it was fine - even on the subway - you soon learn which stops have lifts. It's easier to get off a stop earlier/later and walk the rest of the way so that you can use a lift, rather than try to lift 2 kids and a stroller up the stairs (most of the time!).
