health spa in leicestershire- any suggestions?

I have never been to a health spa before but I'm thinking of treating my mother for her birthday. Has anyone been anywhere around leicestershire that they would recommend?
DH offered to send me and a friend once but I turned it down as I couldn't think what we'd actually do - I can't help wondering if the thought of it would be better than the actual experience iyswim.
Any thoughts, suggestions, tips would be gratefully received.

Think Champney's have a place near Ashby-de-la-zouch if that is in the right area. Other ones are Eden Hall etc. Have been to a spa recently and by the time you've had a swim, a dry off, read a few pages of your book/mag, been in all of the different saunas and steam rooms etc, it's time for lunch, a drink, another short swim and home !!! I really enkoyed it even though I didn't have any "treatments". It was so lovely to just be able to chat and relax without having to think about putting washing in or the next feed or nappy change !

Ragdale Hall was good - but it was years ago that I went there!

I've been to Champney's near Ashby-de-la-Zouch - cost £140 for the day Very nice place, relaxing etc. wasn't my kind of thing tbh but most of the people there were really gushing about the place

Ragdale ragdale ragdale!!! Can't recommend it highly enough. It is expensive really but the food and atmosphere of the place is fab and I have had three truly lovely days there. You won't want to leave! Think it is better value at certain times of the week and they will alter the day packages a bit for you if there is something in them that you hate or can't have etc. I would phone them and have a chat I've always found them very helpful.

thanks for the suggestions. Am thinking about an overnight stay, would it be a waste of money?

Just adding another endorsement for Ragdale Hall, definitely worth the money for an overnight stay if you can afford it.

daisy1999 · 27/09/2006 17:40

thanks annie - I'd love to say I can afford it but I can't yet. I'm saving up as it a special birthday for my mum this year.

I know it sounds odd but I'm worried we will be bored if we stay overnight - will there be enough to do? What treatments would you recommend?

I know the feeling but it would be worth it to treat your Mum.

anniediv · 27/09/2006 17:43

Oops, x posted. Yes, plenty to do depending on treatments etc you chose, but it would be lovely to have a nice relaxing time, take some good books and chill out.

I took my mum to ragdale two years ago, and it was fantastic. its worth staying over night for the delicious food that can be as healthy as you want it to be - or not. they often do a special overnight package with a treatment or two thrown in, and have lots of special offers - if you can go on say a monday or tuesday its sometimes cheaper.

Ragdale Hall is superb plenty to do - and not to do! Love the comfy room there

I knew I'd feel better if I came on here. I'm actually quite excited now
