I've never been before and was just fancying a weekend just me and dh. What's it like in January? Is it seasonal? Would all shops and restaurants be open?

Just that, thank you.

Any particular reason for Gib? Only I've been there for work and wouldn't rush back! It's just dreary and like a small 70s british town. Terrible coffee!

Lots of other lovely places within a few hours flight.

Have to agree Patricia.

Oh! I don't really know I was expecting a quaint little place. We would only be going Friday afternoon till Sunday, the flight is only £70, Amdahl really fancied staying on the sunborn boat. That's not got great reviews either, too modern nod expensive snack prices, but it's still not putting me off.

It's not in the least bit quaint! Grin Seriously, it's a waste of a weekend when you could do bruge, Brussels, edinburgh, paris, Dublin....

I think you're being kind Patricia Grim best describes Gibraltir
Tons of fantastic places to go for weekend OP.

Agree with the others. We went there 12 years ago as dh was born there- seriously grubby and depressing!

Trickydecision · 16/09/2014 17:09

A council estate on a rock.

lizandlulu · 16/09/2014 19:04

Oh what!! This is not good!!

I might have to think of somewhere else then.

I've been to all of the other cities mentioned apart from paris but that just doesn't Appeal to me.

Skegness it Is then ;)

Actually it does have one or two redeeming features I suppose. You could get a taxi and ask the driver do a tour of the rock. More miles of road tunnels inside than roads outside, interestingly historical names of streets. See the apes. Get bitten. I still have the scar from my encounter with them. All that will take max. two hours (assuming no queue at A and E for bite treatment).
Or you could go somewhere else.

I lived there as a kid. On Xmas day we would run into the sea. And run out. Was cold

GrumpySwivelHead · 16/09/2014 22:33

I lived there for a while. And definitely wouldn't bother visiting it! Try Marbella or Estapona or Cadiz or Jerez or Seville instead :)
