Go to the Lanes, lots of quirky independent shops. From pier, head towards station and you will see the signs for the area, both sides of main road. Lots of the cafes here will have local 'Whats On' type fliers. Have fun!

There are 2 good areas for independent shops, the Lanes as xyx said and also the North Laine. The Lanes has a lot of antique shops, jewellery, some clothes, but the North Laine might suit you better - second hand and vintage shops, comic books, art materials, Vegetarian Shoes, house decs and interiors, great cafes and cake shops.

Look out for Get Cutie and just across the road is Snoopers Paradise. here's a map of the North Laine.

Also check out a pop-up shop called 'Knowledge' on North Street, here is an example of the kind of thing they have.

The Brighton Pavilion is really worthwhile, the rooms are so extravagant, and from mid November there will be an ice rink outside - might not be there in time for half term.

even at age 16 they will enjoy a visit to Brighton Pier!

the Brighton Comedy festival is on 10-25 October, but there are always comedy nights and shows and plenty of bands and gigs and live music throughout the year.

foe somewhere to stay have a look at Hotel Pellirocco - not sure how it will match to your budget. Single rooms appear to be £59 during half term...

Sorry I have been awol! Thank you for your replies and good info :) I have booked a fab little apartment for two nights on Lower Rock Gdns? So hoping its not too far from the centre. Will need to pop to a shop for a few necessities, bread milk etc, is there a M&S in town? We are going on the 27th-29th, hoping there might be some fun Halloween things going on! Where would you recommend I take them to eat in the evening?

OP posts:
traviata · 10/10/2014 17:56

Lower Rock Gardens is an easy walk from the centre, and very close to the sea as well.

yes, M&S in the main shopping square called Churchill Square, but you will find lots of small supermarkets closer to where you are staying.

Places to eat:

we like JB's Diner

and in the area called Kemp Town (near your apartment) there are loads of nice restaurants and cafes. Pomegranate is a good one, but you will be spoiled for choice.

this place is the most bonkers tea room you can imagine.

Brighton Museum is worth a look as well, nice fashion and design collections and there are always art exhibitions on.

triplets · 10/10/2014 23:03

A huge thank you Traviata! Do love the look of the American diner! The tea room link won`t work!

You're welcome, have a fab time Smile

For the tea room, google The Tea Cosy, 3 George Street, Kemptown, Brighton.

triplets · 11/10/2014 21:50

Found it.........but looks as though it won`t be open the days we are there :(

I was hoping to find something on in the evening, but cannot really see anything for the girls, we will be there Mon 27-Weds 29th, prob leaving around 1pm. Can you recommend any good pubs that serve food that would have live music?

OP posts:
traviata · 12/10/2014 23:02

It can be a bit hard finding things for 16 y/o, can't it, so many gigs and evening events are over 18.

The Brunswick in Hove is worth a look (easy bus or taxi there from central Brighton);

the Sidewinder pub in Kemp Town has good food and live music very often.

here's a gig guide but there will be a host of other events and you will do best by just looking out for flyers and posters.

eg here are some other events including comedy.

This place is fun, near you, and hosting a comedy award show on the Tuesday Bar Broadway

To be honest, though, it will be easy just to stroll about and find somewhere you like the look of. St James Street in Kemptown is lined with bars and cafes; the North Laine (earlier post) and the Lanes are stuffed with places; you really won't find it difficult to find something going on.

triplets · 12/10/2014 23:21

Thanks Traviata, will take your advice and stroll and find somewhere :)
